I can see you!

Crazy train reader rider Marion C. sent this photo in. It's a difficult shot because she's trying to capture a digital pic through four panes of glazed glass but it's a dirty turnip with her feet on the seat and a bag on the seat next to her.

I know, it's hard to see her. So I drew a chalk outline.

And her bag.

Ahhh, now you see the turnip. Dirty foot rider. Cue the song! "Mrs. Bag Rider ... "

  1. Marion C (my partner) is actually a very lovely lady. We're both big fans and we've thought about writing a GO Transit etiquette guide - until we realized the contents would be 99% mocking foolish people.

  2. Hi Andrae! Thank you for your very polite correction and I have indeed made the correction in question, and of course, am embarrassed.

We can still write the guide! It would be awesome. And it can have a glossary where we insert photos from the site for key definitions such as 'turnip' and 'bag rider'.

  3. I read your blog often and find it quite amusing. I agree with how rude people can be, however, I don't see anything wrong with putting your bag on a seat when the train is pretty empty so you can hopefully have a friend sit with you. I notice alot of the "bag rider" pictures are taken when the train is relatively empty. I'm just saying ...

  4. Hey, you know what folks?
Rules are rules and when you buy a ticket to ride on the GO Transit system you are agreeing to a set of tariffs meant to promote and protect the enjoyment, comfort and safety of other passengers.

One of those tariffs explains in detail that baggage and personal items are to remain with you, either on your lap or under your seat regardless of how empty the train is.

Passengers should not have to ask anyone to move a bag and if you want to save a seat for someone the system operates on a first come, first serve basis for seat designation. In other words, if a person wants to sit next to you and it's not your friend, that person has priority.

Perhaps this sounds rude but rules are rules.

Using your logic, would you say it's ok to speed on an empty highway late at night when there's little traffic? Speeding is speeding no matter what time of day or volume. The rules apply to everyone.

  6. When the train is boarding, I agree, keep your stuff to yourself - when it's rush hour.
