Is it the safety circle?

Why are we so afraid to have our elbow touch another person's arm?

The woman sitting next to me this evening was taking great pains to position her arm away from me. It looked incredibly uncomfortable, so I moved.

  1. If I'm not reading, I prefer to sit with my arms folded (which may look defensive, but is actually just comfortable). However, as a man, if a woman is sitting next to me, I worry about where my hands might inadvertadly end up, so have to figure out some other way to sit.
