Finally, Google got its crap together

This blog made its debut in February but the posts go back further as they were collected from old Facebook status updates of mine. I have managed to post every day except for weekends. All this hard work of typing on my crappy webphone has paid off. This site has been "found" by Google!

www.thiscrazytrain.com was crawled and indexed by Google's 'googlebot' yesterday for almost 8 hours. This means every post was indexed in Google's taxonomy.

I know I'm totally geeking out here but I'm getting to why this is important.

This means that the search field up at the top of this blog now works!

My goal is to knock all references to Ozzy Osbourne's Crazy Train off the first page of Google when someone searches for "crazy train".

It may take four years but it's a huge victory when your blog makes it into Google.

It also helps that you folks read it. So thank you!

  1. I know I've emailed you at great length about my suspisions about this website and it's legitimateness.

I'll be surprised if you don't delete this comment but the more I read the more I am convinced this is a massive social media experiement by Metrolimx to draw out GO customers and find out how they feel about their rider experience.

There is no way an average joe-blow commuter would spend the money and time it takes to create such a site without the backing a huge corporation.

I'm just not sure how it ties into helping GO make more money or increase ridership. I mean, why would you care about parking lot renovations at a station you don't use? (pause for emphasis) My point exzactly.

It reminds me of the wig-out viral video from a few years ago where the bride to be pulls off a wig to reveal she's bald. I don't remember what product it was for.

Eventually the packaging will come off.

Don't get me wrong, from a marketing perspective this blog is brilliant but no one person can pull it off except for a team of writers.

    If I'm wrong, but I don't thing I am, then I'm wrong.

But I am sure the reveal is coming.

  2. And I'm going to be featuring those emails you and I have exchanged in a web series very shortly. I'm just waiting on funding from the CBC.

I'm going to call it, "Letters From a Nut".

  3. "There is no way an average joe-blow commuter would spend the money and time it takes to create such a site".
    LOL.
Setting up a site like this takes a couple of hours - most of it is just copy and paste from standard blogger templates. Sorting out the domain name and hosting for a year is about $80 tops. (CJ - correct me if I'm wrong).

"Why would you care about parking lot renovations at a station you don't use?"
Well, if you traveled on the Lakeshore East line to Oshawa, you'd be pretty darned sick of the announcements - which to you are pointless...

  4. With all the layers of bureaucracy and 18 levels of approvals there's no way that a blog run by GO (or any other public agency) could write a post about things that happened a few minutes earlier. That's how you know it's legit.

  5. UM... TO BOOT THE PRINCE OF DARKNESS'CRAZY TRAIN OFF THE TOP OF GOOGLE WOULD BE SHORT OF A MIRACLE. THIS POPULAR SONG HAS BEEN KICKING AROUND SINCE CHRIST WAS A COWBOY! I'D BE SURPRISED IF YOU COULD DO IT SO I WISH YOU LUCK. BUT DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATHE TOO LONG.

GOOD SITE THOUGH I ENJOY IT VERY MUCH.

  7. Actually, one has to understand how SEO works. If a site has a keyword or say a write up about Ozzy's song but that particular page or website hasn't been updated in ages, Google has no reason to "index" it so it "crawls" over it. When you have a blog that updates everyday (or hourly), that site will front higher in a search, for the same search term.

This is how it works. So it is possible that one day, searching for "Ride This Crazy Train" will show this site over an Ozzy Osborne site.

    Just sayin'...

    Just watch me.

  9. @Tom W.

Blogger is free. Tying a domain name to the blog directory cost me $9 USD.

If I were to move away from Blogger and host on a separate server using proprietary blogging software, your guess about cost is right.

  10. You must really be enjoying this, Cindy! I mean, I haven't ridden a GO train ever, a train in years. But this is great entertainment.
