GO Transit says a train derailment caused it to temporarily stop service on its Richmond Hill line Monday morning.
Transit officials say the "minor derailment" happened just after 7:30 a.m. and the the 7:25 a.m. and 7:55 a.m. trains from Richmond Hill station to Union station were suspended. Service resumed just before 10 a.m.
York Regional Police say no injuries have been reported but a user on Twitter says one rail car came off the tracks and passengers are being asked to move down the train for "safety reasons".
Hands down, this is scary. This derailment may have been "minor" but is a train derailment really "minor"? Thankfully, no one was hurt. Apparently "emergency track repair" was all the rage this evening.

No train derailment is minor when it comes to public safety. What?!!!
I can't believe any PR person would say that. I had to bus it from Langstaff. Buses hold no where near as many people as one coach from a 10 car train does. But at least I got home.
At least they brought in buses. Normally GO makes you wait as long as possible until they decide to do nothing but make you wait until they can get their trains through.
It was a minor derailment. Doesn't mean it's not a Bad Thing thatg it happened, but that doesn't it wasn't minor.
The locomotive (and carraiges) stayed upright and coupled together, which is the main thing that prevents derailments leading to serious injuries/deaths.
In other news not mentioned by CP24, about eight people probably died that day in car accidents. (Canada has 3000 road deaths per year).
True, up to 8 Canadians die each day in car crashes but look at how many people fit into one GO train coach. It's more than 8.
They say it is minor so that people won't spazz or flip out. It's just a way to calm everyone. It seems minor since it is only (thankfully) the loco and the first car. I'm glad no one was hurt. Very scary!
