More seats means more opportunities to leave our seats to pee! I should be writing these alerts

We are excited to announce that we will soon be increasing our rail fleet!
Recently, we purchased an additional 50 new bi-level passenger coaches from Bombardier that we expect to start rolling into service by Fall of this year.

This will enable us to increase our service and extend the length of our trains, allowing us to accommodate an additional 8000 passengers a day which means more seats for you!

I don't know who proofread the email before it went out, but the "for" is missing resulting in broken English.

  1. What they don't tell you is that the station platforms need to be able to handle 12 car trains. If they can't, then GO won't add any more cars on certain lines (coughcoughBarrie) without upgrading all the station platforms first.

  2. Yeh I was just going to say that. I know the paltform I get on (Newmarket), they extended that badboy just a couple of years ago anyways, so I know we'll be the last ones of the routes that'll get these trains.

    Good for you Go Transit, now you have to increase our fares so that you can pay for these trains AND pay to get platforms extended. Bravo, well done.

  3. GO also has the option of running more trains rather than longer trains. After all, when the purchased the new locos a while back, they included 16 for "expansion". So, expect to see extra Barrie line trains. (Which is better than longer trains in my books).

    Also, station upgrades get funded out of capital budget, not from fares (which only cover about 80% of operating costs).

    The Stouffville line is currently getting longer platforms; Milton and Lakeshore already have them.

  4. You mean I might not have to sit on the stairs anymore! That would be so great! They definatley need more trains on the barrie line...one after 6pm would be nice...you know for those people who want to have a life from time to time!

  5. You know, I swear when I started riding the train almost 17 years ago, the train actually did have cars that went beyond the platform (at Whitby). I can remember getting on the last car on the platform and walking two cars over to the last car.

  6. @Kelly - you are correct! I've been riding the train for almost 20 years. Back in the early days, there'd be 12 cars and the last two wouldn't service certain stations and the first two wouldn't service Oshawa or Whitby. Or something like that. I also remember my monthly pass was about $150.

  7. Kelly: since then, they've lengthened the platforms on the Lakeshroe East line so 12-car trains can fit on OK.

    I've also foudn out that before the line was extended to Oshawa, GO would run a train along the CN tracks to what is now Oshawa VIA platforms, not stopping between Pickering and Oshawa.

    Also, the GO platforms at Oshawa extend into Whitby.
