Rode the GO bus this morning and was dropped off at the stop by my hubby at 6:00am.
What an ungodly hour.
It was made even better that in the bus shelter, the only shelter near this rural bus stop, stood a woman sucking on a cigarette.
So guess who stood in the driving wind and rain for 11 minutes?
Here's the thing, I did say something which was met with no reaction, just a shrug.
I then exclaimed, "Well, sucks to be me!" as I stepped out of the shelter, doing an about face when I inhaled the smoke.
I can't tolerate cigarette smoke even I wanted to. I have asthma.
Secondly, let's say I could, why should I voluntarily subject myself to second hand smoke?
I hate people sometimes.

As a smoker, I've never smoked in a bus shelter. That was just inconsiderate.
Again, why would you do that to yourself? Tell her that there is NO SMOKING inside the bus shelter and to please go smoke outside.

She continued to smoke. She shrugged her shoulders at me.
That's when I exclaimed, "Well, sucks to be me!" and walked out.
I guess I could have thrown a punch. But I didn't. Because I don't like jail.
PS. I also didn't see a no smoking sign. So perhaps I'm the one in the wrong.
look on the bright side! she is smoking (first hand) and hot boxing (second hand), so she will die faster! YAY to a world with one more less selfish, inconsiderate a-hole!!

My grampa smoked non filter cigarrettes and drank heavily for 60 years, died @ 89 yrs old.
Right. I guess it could be good genetics. Same thing with my paternal grandfather. He smoked tobacco in a pipe. Lived to be 92.

Actually no. My gramps always smoked outside. So I see your point.
You can always pull out the one-offs, someone always knows someone who smoked their whole life, and lived a long life, but statistics are not on the smokers side. If not lung cancer, then emphysema, COPD, CAD or the like. If I was a betting girl, my money goes on CJ.

No CJ, my money goes on you to outlive the smoker.
Morbidity and mortality rates for smokers are not good, regardless of how many of us know somebody who beat the odds.

Phew. Good to know. Lord help me, as I hope to never be a candidate for any of them tho I do worry where the asthma will take me in 20 years!
Bus shelters are non-somking - they are enclosed on three sides (and partially on the fourth), so they coutn as "enclosed area", and are hence automatically non-smoking (like any public building).
That's probably why there's non-smoking signs, in the same way there's no signs saying don't drink alcohol - it's illegal regardless.
