You know what's awesome?
Me!
But you knew that already.
Today I did a radio interview with the CBC's Ontario Today lunch hour show. The host was really pushing the stand-up comic angle which was really making me feel pressured to perform! I guess it brings some credibility and sounds way more exciting than, "Here's Cindy Smith, a website designer in the financial services industry".
Here's a link to the show description and the actual taping. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the CBC for inviting me and to those who phoned in with their stories.

I didn't get a chance to get on the air but I wanted to tell you about the most disgusting thing I ever saw and the outcome.
ReplyDeleteI was on the GO train coming back from an AC/DC concert a couple of years ago and this man hacked up some phleghm and he spit on the window where I was sitting where it slid down the length of the window and came to rest on the ledge.
I told him he had to clean it up which resulted in us resorting to blows. He shoved me. I shoved him. He punched me, I punched him in the nuts.
thanks for name dropping me on the radio!!!!! just want to say now after listening to you that i realize i didnt understand wht the site was aboit and i tottaly overreacted and im truly sorry about that and i dont want people reading to think im an asshole. i did have too myych to drink that nite and was probably gt what was coiming to me!!!

Great interview, CJ. And some of the calls that came in were priceless.
ReplyDeleteSaw this on the CBC site. I quote: "I thought this whole program was very mean spirited. Making fun of people in a public forum is in very bad taste. I thought I was back in grade school. What were you thinking?
ReplyDeleteI find myself turning CBC Radio off more often, it's a shame, I do believe in public radio. However, continue to have program topics such as this CBC will no longer receive my donations."
I have to totally disagree. I wouldn't be surprised if the person who wrote this was a fan of America's Funniest Home Videos. Isn't that show the same pretense?
The site IS funny and also the author of the site does make a good point of showcasing the rudeness and disgusting habits many people carry out of their homes and onto public transit.
If we can't poke fun at ourselves and after reading quite a bit, it appears Cindy Smith can very much poke fun at herself, what's the point of having the ability to laugh?
I think some people deserve to be poked fun at, especially people who pull out breakfast buffets on the train in the morning.
ReplyDeleteOn public transit, situations happen all the time that are funny. How on earth is it in bad taste to relay a story you found funny?
You can't win them all!
It's a public place. If you don't want people talking about you eating a whole buffet on the train in plain view, then save it for later.
ReplyDeleteI listened to the podcast. It was funny.
ReplyDeleteHow on earth did they find you? I like to Facebook and tweet the stories.
When I get bored on the train - can't bother read etc.. I can always count on a good story from your or your audience.
Question: Is it okay to eat a small box of sushi if one is starving and over an hour away from home?? Chop sticks ensure sanitized eating....
1. Financial Post
ReplyDelete2. If you're hungry, you're hungry. I've seen people eat sushi pretty discreetly.
