Over the years, Oshawa's lot has gotten busier - no doubt.
But one of these days someone is going to get killed if some drivers don't cut out the bullshit.
I understand the desire to get home sooner. I know what it's like to be running late, but here's the thing, those are not valid reasons to speed, race through the parking lot, drive over parking curbs, turn sharply around aisles and gun it towards a stop sign.
Who the hell do you think you are? You're not more important than me so slow the f*ck down.
This morning I was nearly run over by a woman in a blue Mazda 3 who whipped around the aisle of cars, foot clamped to the accelerator, completely oblivious to pedestrians walking around those same row of cars to cross the lot. She grazed me with her sideview mirror. It didn't hurt but what alarmed me is what if I had been wearing my crossbody bag instead of carrying it? Imagine if her sideview mirror caught the strap of my bag. She was hauling ass so fast her tires squealed as she turned. I would have been dragged. I would have been seriously injured.
If you're late, there's another train. Slow down. If this doesn't work for you, make changes in your life so you can arrive at the station earlier. Don't jeopardize the lives of others. Not over a train.
I travel from Bramalea GO, and let me tell you, it’s absolutely no different here. My father and I both travel from the same station, and have commented more than once that “somebody’s going to die here one of these days”. I share your hate for the asshats who think that pedestrians should vault out of the way; who think that their own time is infinitely more valuable than anyone else’s; who think that it’s acceptable to do 60 km/h in a parking lot and to blow stop signs. I wonder if sending something to GO Transit Safety complaining about it, might prompt them to request a few police officers to mete out the odd ticket? That might slow down the dangerous driving. If GO takes our safety seriously, maybe they should consider the following:
ReplyDeleteFrom the Highway Traffic Act:
Careless driving
130. Every person is guilty of the offence of driving carelessly who drives a vehicle or street car on a highway without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for other persons using the highway and on conviction is liable to a fine of not less than $400 and not more than $2,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not more than six months, or to both, and in addition his or her licence or permit may be suspended for a period of not more than two years. 2009, c. 5, s. 41.
“Highway” in the Act is not what we generally consider to be a highway. For clarity, “highway” is defined as (bolded for relevance):
“highway” includes a common and public highway, street, avenue, parkway,driveway, square, place, bridge, viaduct or trestle, any part of which is intended for or used by the general public for the passage of vehicles and includes the area between the lateral property lines thereof;
Even if the tickets were bogus and got thrown out in court, I suspect a $400 fine for doing the Parking Lot Indy at rush hour would really take the lead out of some drivers’ feet.
Like so many other things in life, it will take someone actually getting killed before something is done.
ReplyDeleteI find some of the worst offenders are the morning drop-offs and end of day pick-ups. Most of the time they don't even use the kiss n' ride and just stop/park wherever they want.
Has anyone else had to slam on their brakes for the idiots reversing/u-turning out of the ONE-WAY kiss'n'ride in Oshawa? I tend to drive cautiously since people will appear from between parked cars, but these idiots who back out into traffic WILL cause an accident.
ReplyDeleteI want video. I see the people run form the train all the time, but I don't park far enough away from the train to witness any of this reckless behavior.
ReplyDeleteIt's no different at Whitby. You gotta watch out for the donkeys who drive the wrong way out of the parking garage at warp speed (going out the entrance and driving through a one way lane the wrong way). And it's not the friggin' INDY 500, slow the f*bomb down!
ReplyDeleteI'll start taping.
ReplyDeleteRougehill may have sane drivers!!
