"Just a fair warning that I'd hope you'd mention. At Whitby Go station south parking lot, there are car break-ins happening. Catalytic converters are being stolen according to the police. I've discovered all of this after my car was broken into. My sound system was stolen along with other articles. Thankfully, my catalytic converter was not stolen. That would have been a royal piss off as those are very expensive.
I've complained to MetroLinx. I've bitched at them the lack of security. My car alarm must have been going off for at least 5 hours as my battery was drained.
It was absolutely outrageous what they told me. They said: "We're not responsible for the safety of vehicles." "Here's the number for transit safety." "Here's the fax number for complaints."
The hell? Someone has to be responsible for our vehicles! This is provincially owned, government property. $250 a month just to have my car broken into?! Eff that noise!
People at MetroLinx need a wake up call!"
Does anyone recall seeing any signs at the GO lots that give notice that we park at own risk? I can't recall any at Oshawa. There has to be some security/disclaimers offered by GO with regards to personal property, no? I had gas siphoned out of my vehicle while it sat parked in the Oshawa lot. That wasn't a fun experience to start your car up and have less than 7 litres out of 70L left.

Actually, BECAUSE they're government-owned, they're not going to care! Don't even get me started on how many complaints I've escalated to GO, only to have them retort a melody of "Too bad, so sad."
Car alarms are stupid. I've been in parking lots where a car alarm is going off. No one ever does anything about it, nor should they IMO. Not my problem. Sure if I saw a guy breaking into said car then yes I would call police. Otherwise if your battery dies because your alarm is going off, that's your problem. Even if someone contacted GO, what exactly do you expect them to do? How would they contact you anyway?
D.f your a retard lol. I'll beside to setyur car on fire. I hope everyone that sees the car burning will just keep sailin by. Ugh.
@ Retarded Anon: how about learning to spell and type? So is your car alarm really going to help prevent your car from catching on fire?
I'm thinking a car covered in flames is enough to get someone's attention and that a car on fire with the alarm going off isn't going to make much difference.
Actually the whitby lot has a sign where I drive in that says the lot is monitored.
If your alarm doesn't switch after 15-20 minutes, then I kind of loose sympathy for the fact your battery died. Instead, my sympathy goes to those people living/working near by who had to listen to yoru car alarm for umpteen hours.
I had my bitchin' Camaro (haha, it was really a piece-of-shit) broken into at the Oakville station back in the 80's. The passenger window was smashed and all my cassettes (another haha) were taken. The thing that really pissed me off was it was winter and snowing and I came back to a car full of snow! I called GO, their response was that there had been a number of break-in's at Oakville and someone would get back to me and of course no one ever did. They were aware there was a problem and they were doing nothing about it. Sucks that all these years later they still don't give a shit and I never replaced my Simple Minds and Tears for Fears cassettes!!! (one last haha)
Is this theft news recent? I know there were a couple of guys arrested last summer who were caught on camera at the Whitby lot.
I looked for the signs this morning. One says the lot is monitored with video surveillance and another sign says GO is not responsible for damages or loss to vehicles, no matter how caused. If that's the case, then why monitor the lots? I don't think they can be completely absolved from liability though.
I don't see how or why Go should be held liable for thefts. I mean if your car gets broken into in the mall lot, you're not going after the mall.
A few weeks back there were cops at Ajax station teLling people there had been recent break-ins and handing out flyers with reminders to lock your vehicle and to not leave anything visible inside. I don't leave so much as a quarter sitting on my console inside my car.
I agree D.F. and there is nothing of value in my car and it's always locked up BUT considering there are surveillance cameras EVERYWHERE, GO should bear some responsibility. Of course that would probably come at a price . . . paying for parking!
The cameras are most likely not monitored 24/7 (if at all), but only reviewed if there was an incidence and the police request them, long after the fact.
I just had both my front and rear license plates stolen off my vehicle at Whitby Go North parking lot. How shitty is that? I would have loved to catch he asshole in the act.
