That's pretty epic. I would have calmly stood up, plucked her cellphone from her hand, ended the call and then handed it back to her, minus the battery of course.
This happens all the time. Ok, not the speaker phone part - that's extreme. I was on the bus yesterday - with 3 transit police. The woman in the seat in front of me spoke on her phone for about 45 min. She was load enough that I could hear her through my noise cancelling headphones! I thought I was picking up some kind of interference signal. The transit police said and did nothing. Hey, as long as the fares are paid. Beyond that you are on your own to deal with these rude idiots.
I would (and have) had yelled out "YOU KNOW YOU'RE ON SPEAKER PHONE, RIGHT?" so the other party to the conversation would clue in (I personally hate being on speaker phone, so would have immediately insisted to be taken off speaker or ended the call).
How far back in the bus was she? The drivers I know would have told her to knock it off. Too bad it wasn't in a restaurant where the server could dump a glass of water (or whatever) on her and her phone.
Recently I was waiting to board a flight out of Pearson and there was a guy sitting in the gate area video Skype'ing with his laptop's speaker at full volume. Despite it being packed, the immediate area around him cleared out while everyone shot him death stares. Of course once on the plane, who should sit right next to me but Mr. Skype. As soon as he could, he resumed his conversation and at 30,000 feet the connection wasn't great so there was a lot of shouting and "Hello? Hello?". After about 30 minutes a flight attendant came by and told him it's against aviation rules to Skype. In protest, he farted the rest of the way to LA.

ReplyDeleteWell I can't see the pic but I'll trust that it was epic. There's no need to be on speakerphone. Period.
ReplyDeleteSaw the pic... and now realized I could have linked off it in the post. Duh! I should wake up first, then surf the web! ;o)

ReplyDeleteI would have moved next to her and sung John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt toward her phone.
