Clarkson obstacle course

Had to share this pic with you. I snapped it yesterday afternoon at Clarkson. This car was parked smack-dab in the middle of the road leading into the station. He/she/it was probably blocking one lane of the roadway all day - it should have been towed. Don't they patrol the lots at all? Yes, I know, stupid question.

Cheers!
Lisa

I doubt very much they patrol the lots. They don't care!!! This guy for sure should have been towed!

TOW! TOW! TOW!

I am guessing they parked next to someone who was also parking illegally, but slightly more considerately.

Nothing will change until GO discovers some cajones cowering in a corner somewhere and goes through with their threat to tow.

Well, it is possible that someone forgot to put the park brake on.

I know this because I did it once at the lot in Barrie. Got a friendly voice mail at home saying the boys from security pushed it back into place and chocked it with rocks so it wouldn't roll out of the spot again.

My wife picked up the message and phoned me at work. Seldom have I felt so embarassed. When I got back to Barrie, though, nobody noticed anything, as the car was back in its spot.

I was rather grateful to Go security that day, and still am.

no I dont believe they patrol the lots, certainly not at Ajax. people block the laneways all the time and often you have to drive around and around in order to just find a spot to get out.

It'll only become an issue ad GO will start towing after someone gets their car rammed by a fire truck racing to put out a burning car in the parking lot, or an ambulance rushing to respond to an emergency.

If GO was to ticket and GO & a tow truck operator were to split the impound fee, there's a source of revenue right there.

Go needs to fix their parking facilities and have enough spots for the people who take Go before they can justify towing cars.
Quite often the parkings lots are actually full..

@ Anon. That is no excuse. GO provides parking at all stations. If there is not enough parking at a particular station you:

A) get there earlier
B) go to another station (ie. Whitby with their slalom/parking garage, or
C) take an alternate form of transportation to the station.

I think you are one of those that parks illegally.

Towing/ticketing will discourage those people from using GO at all and therefore lost revenue for GO. Those people might not come back at all during the less busy months too. They may claim emergency vehicle access is important but they really don't care about that.

Some customers just aren't worth having if they make life miserable for the rest of them.

Amen to that!

Somehow I think you don't commute from a station with 122 parking spots. Option (a) is arrive by 7:15am. If you work a normal 9-5, you're screwed. (b) My nearest station on the LSW line with reasonable parking is easily a 20 minute drive. It takes me 25-30 minutes to drive into downtown. Goddamn ridiculous.

That said, there pretty much is nowhere to illegally park at Mimico lot. So folks park on the street, which makes the city of Toronto a lot of money ticketing commuters parked 'more than 3 hours'.

Illegal parkers suck, but GO seriously needs to provide more parking at the closer LSW stations.

@AngelSil:

I park at Ajax, which many people on this site already know.

As you may or may not know, 1 whole parking lot of the Ajax station is currently under construction for a parking garage. This means that the atrocious parking for the last few years is even worse.

I work 8 to 5pm. I tend to get to work at 7:30. I made this choice based on the fact that I like to park legally in the lots provided; Option A.

As well, I have been known to walk and take transit to the station. Both of which is more time consuming, but I do not have to deal with the parking lot mayhem; this takes care of my Option C.

As for your issue, take it up with GO transit. There are other options, including parking at another station. Or start having breakfast at work or morning errand time.

There is always something you can do besides parking illegally or bitching about the number of spots. You just need to do some research and find what works best for you.

@Squiggles

I assure you everyone at Mimico and Long Branch has taken this issue up with GO. Repeatedly. A commuter lot should provide adequate parking for commuters.

I never said I parked illegally. I don't. The lot isn't big enough to have illegal spots!

I end up driving into downtown most days. If I have to drive for 30 minutes I might as well reach my destination, not the closest GO station with reasonable parking - Clarkson.

I've seen their Transit Safety Officers actually patrol parking lots and once at a station, they write dozens of parking tickets.
