Houston we have a problem.

Some days, and this may shock you, I am not the sharpest eyebrow pencil in Paris Hilton's ho-box. I know, I fake the brilliance easily. It's a gift.

I have also been encouraged to write my posts while smashed on wine. Tonight is no exception. You know what's hilarious? Watching Hell's Kitchen drunk. Try it.

One thing I could not figure out was that despite this website's viral popularity, there's not a lot of comment activity. Again, thank you for sharing. My Grade 1 teacher, Mrs. Moreti, would be proud of you. Mrs. Moreti used to have a small clock radio by her desk always tuned to 680CFTR which was *the* Top40 radio station most kids in Toronto would listen to in the 80s until all the kids got mod and shit in the early 90s and started listening to CFNY while the rest of us moved to Energy108. Anyway, where the hell was I going with this?

Sharing ... yes! Every so often someone finds something I've posted to be the most amazing blog post in the world and links it to Facebook, Twitter or some other shit and the site gets hammered. But the comments don't come.

I figured it out. I figured it out because I've clued in and caught up to all the emails that have been sent to me and one phrase I kept reading over and over from many different people was comments don't work for them at work. So I did some digging and got all geeky and I've determined that the IT nazis at your very workplace have blocked this URL -> http://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID

You can hit the site because I have a unique domain name but your employer doesn't want you wasting valuable time writing comments. Which is a shame ... The comments are what I look forward to. Even the negative ones.

For some people, because of browser settings, the comments don't work because pop-ups have been blocked.

So what to do?

I don't have a goddamn clue. I just wanted to let you know I figured it out.

You should write all your posts hammered.

I think there's a way for you to use this commenting system on your blog - http://disqus.com/welcome/

Will review when I am sober and can comprehend all that is geeky and requires sobriety.

I can see the comments at work, but not the pictures :( Although the ones you posted today were visible for some reason. But none of the other ones are.

More investigations!

I've made a rule for myself-no status updates on facebook when drinking wine. I always regret what I posted the next morning.

C.J. Smith said...

That's a good rule. My friend Julie and I should be jailed for the shenaningans on FB this evening!

Our "Superscout" blocks my ability to comment at work and tells me to stop slacking. I can read the comments below the blog entry when I click on individual blog posts but if I click where it says "8 Crazy Comments" Superscout cuts me off. I hate that bastard.

I can comment from home, but by then it is usually completely irrelevant.

Ooooh, I feel so lucky they haven't caught on to me at work! I can post freely. Of course my Internet connection at work is more open than other departments based on the needs for my job. I do try to keep my postings to early morning and during my lunch break. But sometimes you just gotta peek at what's happening on da crazy train. And post while it's relevant.

Well this bites.
Because, yes, as much as most people can go home and write comments later, the relevancy is lost.
I know I can set it up that people can comment using Facebook but frankly, I'm not comfortable with that because I like the air of anonymity. I know there are people who don't have a problem with posting comments on websites freely under their own name but there are readers who would like to protect their privacy and I respect that.
After all, we do ride together and I've received a lot of emails that people don't want to make it personal.

I've never read your blog at work, and I don't feel I miss out by waiting until I'm on the train or at home. Actually I use my RSS feed in my email at home to decide if the topic sounds interesting enough to read on. It's a pretty good setup.

I'm also a night time reader so I've never had issues as the whole site works for me at home.
I don't have a plan on my phone that lets me read the site and at work, I don't know. I never thought to read as I've just gotten used to reading before bed.
I like to read the comments. Even if it's hours later, I'd like to think I can still add my view.
PS. I have noticed a trend that there are obviously people who use the site heavily throughout the day which shows either a) an addiction b) a distraction :)

Ok, Imma break it down for y'all. Post comes online at 11:30am, I wanna say somethin' at 11:30 am. But because I have an overlord for an IT director, I have to wait until 8pm when I'm home and all fed and comfy. By this time, the "moment" has passed for me. Also, I wanna indulge or engage in the cast of characters who CAN post throughout the day. So please fix. Manythanks, your drunken FB convo master discussioner.

I think the biggest reason for low comments is that it's hard to find where to post comments.

On your blog you have to scroll down to the bottom of the comments and find the small "Post a Comment" link. I bet lots of folks miss that entirely. If the form was right there on the post, like I've seen on other blogs, I think you'd get more comments (and might help those who have pop-up blockers too).

Testing embedded comment box.

C.J. Smith said...

Okay, let's try this as it does work, the embedded comment box.

I'll look into some other supplementary methods as well.

Much better!

Superscout screws me over at work too and won't allow me to comment however once in awhile if I click really slowly it allows it. Umm what have you done now Cj? I click on the comments and they come up but where it says "post a comment" it us no longer a link that I can click on.

C.J. Smith said...

No, it's now embedded in the page.
Just working with a suggestion. If I make the comments pop up, this is blocked by some readers' browsers at work.
