But can't we all use the exercise? Airport trains expected to make walk to platforms longer for GO customers - MP

The latest sketches of the Weston station show that GO commuters will have to walk an extra 250 feet (76 metres) across the ARL platform to access their trains, said Sullivan. That’s in addition to a longer walk to the station for many commuters because the Weston GO stop is being moved south of its current location on John St. to the south side of Lawrence Ave. W.

“In the winter it will turn a lot of people into drivers.”
- NDP MP Mike Sullivan

Sheesh. Try parking at Ajax. Those poor people who have to park in the new lot behind the dealership have about at least a ten minute walk. Its about the equivalent of walking from King and Bay to Front and Bay. Good exercise although it will suck in the winter.
I gave in and will be paying for one of the new reserved spots going in the south lot as of Nov 1 so that I won't have to haul ass from that new lot. I figure come winter that's probably where Ill be parking once the snow takes up more spots in the south lot! But hey at least I get my ass to the gym on a regular basis!

@DF: You are paying money to reduce the amount of exercise you get (by parking closer), thus requiring you pay out more money for a gym membership??
If parked further out you wouldn't have to go to the gym, and you'd save money.

I wondered if the signposts going up were for more reserved spots. It actually bugs me that they are doing that. All those people that get there early to get a proper spot are being "punished" because of those donkeys that park anywhere once the lot is filled.

But, the good news is that I bought a new rain coat, so once I can get outta bed earlier, I will be walking to and from the station.

@TomW: I got the spot to save time. As it is since they blocked off that area for the parking structure I now leave ten minutes earlier in order to get a spot at the back of the south lot in order to catch the 715 train. Come winter and having to walk from that far lot would probably mean leaving another ten minutes early. As I said I'm not afraid of exercise. And a walk to the Go train is barely exercise IMO. I would never give up my gym membership because exercise to me consists of much more than a brief daily walk to the train.

@Squiggles: I agree that it sucks for the early birds. Rather than solve the parking problems, Go is just making more money off us.

Sorry I keep adding more lol
When they called me asking if I wanted one of the new reserved spots (I was way down on the waiting list), I also said yes because I realized that once they make those spots reserved that meant even less spots for me and that for sure I'd end up in that back lot and/or having to leave even earlier in the morning. And like I said once winter hits I knew it would be a nightmare. Its a nightmare now I can only imaging what's going to happen come winter.

@Df: If you really, really, hate parking/walking across a big parking lot, then take the bus. Every bus route in Ajax goes to the GO station.

D.F. said...

@Tom: I hate the bus more than the nightmare that is the parking lot. Which is why I'm willing to pay $70 more a month to park without headaches.
And as I said its not so much the walk I hate but the fact that it takes more time and would require me to get my ass out of bed even earlier. Its bad enough I now have to leave the house by 6:50. No fucking way am I getting up any earlier!

Extra walking to Weston, oh noes!

How about all of us who need to walk all the way down to Platforms 26/27 in the middle of nowhere from Union Station to hop the Milton and Barrie trains.

Not only are we SO excited to make a Green Mile walk to "Siberian 26/27", we also get to suffer the wrath, slothfulness & unending congo-chains of VIA patrons. Barrie & Milton GO patrons are usually nice people, but include arrogant & rude VIA conductors in my way with arms crossed, puckered lemon eating lips & magically boarded up Siberian track access stairwells & hallways & I'll punt anyone in the gonads. Peace out!
