Three little old ladies

Three little old ladies
stand united at Union Station
One holds a picture of a man in uniform
Who died in battle long before most of us were born
People rush by
anxious to get to their destination
But I stop and look at the picture
of a man who must have died
This is my husband the woman said
His name was Mark and he was amongst the dead
Slaughtered at Dieppe
He never stood a chance
He's why I'm here
On this day of Remembrance
I touched her arm
She reached out for an embrace
And I let her hug me
As a smile spread across my face
I will remember I said
I will make sure I honour the dead
She whispered thank you
I whispered you're welcome
To the three little old ladies
Who stood united at Union Station
