Today's multiple choice question

You're on a crowded morning express train. Your phone rings. It's your wife.
She's crying, sobbing and yelling.
The whole train can hear her, including the engineer and I think also the 14 people waiting on the platform at Union. In fact, my husband texted me, he could hear her all the way in Oshawa.

What's the best way to handle this situation?

a) Attempt to talk to this hysterical woman who isn't listening to you while you repeat, "It's okay" over and over for the next 25 minutes while she complains about what a lousy husband you are and how rotten the kids are.

b) Say, "I can't talk right now, I'll call you back when I have some privacy."

c) Hang up.

d) Turn off your phone.

e) Throw away the battery.

f) b+c+d+e

  1. Well, that depends. Do you want to stay married or at least get laid again . . . EVER? Then your answer is A. I would be tempted to go with F but talking on the telephone drives me crazy anyway.

  2. Meh, I never would have answered the phone to start with. Since that was not the case, I choose option F). But then again, I can't stand drama queens and a meltdown over the phone is both ineffectual (I mean, what can he do to solve the situation right now?) and DRAH-MAH.

  3. I have personally used option "B". But I think I actually said "I cannot have this conversation right now, I am on a train."

  5. Where's option G - Start singing Air Supply songs? Are you lot really All Out of Love?

  6. IT's amazing how non-train riding people don't realize that you have no privacy on the train for phone calls. At least 1/2, (and in today's case both parties), conversation will be over heard. My wife knows that if she calls me, it better be an emergency, or answers to questions will be single words spoken in a barely audible voice.

  7. This is why I only text or BBM on the train. The whole train doesn't want to know or hear my bid'ness.

  8. "C". She can call me back when she's calmed the f-down.

  9. Spoken like a true man RonNasty. Aunt Flo has probably come to town for a visit.

  10. B.

C is fine, if you don't care about being rude and don't actually expect (or want) to hear back from them.
