Boot rot

Anyone who knows anyone who wears work boots as part of his or her job should be familiar with a condition I call "boot rot". Boot rot is worse in summer but can be just as bad in winter. Sport socks and work boots form together to create a smell that is worse than a used hockey bag.

My husband wears work boots. The first time I discovered boot rot was when he spent a night over at my condo when we first hooked up. Shortly after lapsing into a coma on my couch, I got whiffs of this god-awful smell that wafted from his direction. At first I thought he had cut one but was horrified to think anyone could fart such a smell.

As I moved closer, I realized it was his socks. I yelled at him to wake up and get his socks off. Startled, he sat up and slowly pulled off his socks. I made him drape them over the edge of my balcony railing. Since then, he has never come home in the socks he's worked in. He changes them. He tried Odor Eaters inserts once, but they ate themselves.

Yes, it's that bad.

Please don't do this on the train. We don't want to smell it... and change your dirty socks!

Thanks to SM for the pic

So did not need that aural visual this early in the morning. May have to break my "no coffee" rule to get the smell out of my nose.

oops: meant nasal visual.

Maybe I should have the coffee regardless.

Spraying Fabreeze into boots and shoes after use actually seems to work fairly well.
