So was it a kid or a guy in his 20s?

Friday night, the LSW folks got held up for nearly two hours after a person walked into a GO train.

The Twittersphere was rampant with people tweeting all kinds of frustration with the "jumper".

Word got out it was a kid but CP24 said it was a man in his 20s.

Supposedly the person survived and was sent to hospital.

Just curious what people know.

  1. Well, I tend to call anyone younger than me a "kid". So that could be why the news reported it as such. Some older woman or man stated that the kid tripped and fell onto the tracks or some rot like that.

I can also see where the immediate reaction was "jumper". And therefore, the hatred directed towards him\her.

If it was truly an accident, then I am glad s\he survived. If it was an attempt, keep that person away from all methods of destruction.

  2. Walked into a GO train? You know, the first thing I think of when I see that phrase is someone walking casually down the sidewalk and just straight into the side of the speeding GO train at a level crossing. Boom.

  3. ^ Poster above was me. Forgot to add: That does suck, though. :(
Honestly, I can't think of any much worse way to die.

  4. Regardless of who it was it was a brutal delay. I was on the 515 leaving Union, supposed to arrive at Burlington station at 604, I didn't get there until close to 830. They had GO buses coming to Long Branch to shuttle us to Oakville but those obviously took forever in rush hour, eventually the tracks opened up again with about half the train still waiting for buses. We were told to get back on the train making all stops to Aldershot. Upon arriving at Oakville everyone had to get off and move platforms where we waited another 15 minutes for the next train. I understand this was not GO's fault but the lack of communication and disorganization was infuriating espessially on a Friday night when everyone wanted to get home. Luckily most people had a good attitude about it and there were few people throwing temper tantrums.

  5. I too was on the 5:15 and it was an absolute mess. The 5:13 (express to Clarkson) passengers were also dumped at Long Branch. FYI, Long Branch is a little, dinky station and hardly equipped to handle more than a couple of hundred people, let alone a few thousand. So many rumours on what happened, I've said it before and I'll say it again, zero sympathy for a jumper, but whatever happened GO was completely unprepared. A grade school hall monitor could have done a better job directing the crowd!!! NO ONE had any idea what was going on. I was trying to round up a cab with some strangers, after an hour of being off the train, still no buses. I just started walking west, figured I'd walk all the way home if I had to. I was finally able to get in touch with my nephew and he came and got me. I arrived at my station at 8:00 and there were still lots of cars there so people still had't arrived. Since I felt obligated to give my nephew gas money, I'm not tapping my PRESTO card for a couple of rides. I figure GO owes me for their complete lack of organization. GRRRRRRR

  7. ^ They're allowed to complain, aren't they? I mean, it's not very professional of GO to let people just wander around all disorganized like that. :/

  8. Yeh Anon@4:46, I hear ya' but since I do live in a first world country and lose a good chunk of my pay to taxes and pay a good chunk of money to take the GO, that gives me the right to bitch and complain. GO completely dropped the ball on this one.

  9. I took a later LSW train today where the rumour was the kid was suspended from school and felt jumping in front if a train was a better option then telling their parents they were suspended.

  10. ^ Oh, jeeze. I hope not. O.o; But if that's really what came to their mind, then perhaps there was something else going on. I mean, if I got suspended from school, my first thought would not be to jump in front of a train full of commuters.
