The media release does not state how much of an increase GO is seeking.
The Toronto Star reports: For existing fares between $4.20 and $5.50, the increase would be 30 cents; between $5.51 and $7, the increase would be 35 cents; and over $7.01, the increase would be 40 cents.
GO says they need the extra money to increase parking, expand service and improve customer service.
Does this mean more buses on the 90 route? Sure hope so.

COuldn't GO transit charge for parking at its stations which attracts so many people and use that windfall to reduce fares?
That's nothing. York Region is hiking VIVA/YRT fares and 60% of the system has been on strike for the last 2 and a half months (and still is).
Kind of annoying. It's already expensive enough to take the train where I live.
Figured something like this would be happening. But I thought it would be for April.
I am starting to become a fan of paying to park at the GO stations. But then again, I have changed my routine so I only park at the station 3 or 4 times a month.
If GO charged for parking, its ridership would decrease.
@ Tom, I am not too certain about that. I know when the TTC did it, there was no change in the use of the parking lots.
It still works out cheaper than driving to downtown and parking all day.
But I do know it is just wishful thinking. Especially with the parking lot at Ajax such a mess (and messier for this week too).
Pay to park? No thanks.
For me, it's only marginally cheaper to use the GO than to park near my office for $10 a day. My GO fare is currently $9.36 a day with Presto discount, so the difference is basically gas and wear-and-tear.
Granted, I'm lazy and like to watch TV on the train...
