Yes, you can watch - LIVE - as the board approves the fare increases (cuz you know it's not going to be vetoed).
I've been sick since Thursday with a god awful virus so I'll probably watch.
Every time GO has increased the fares, the reasons are always the same - better service, etc.
I have yet to see all of the people who board the express trains at Ajax during the morning rush between 7:30 and 8:30 grab a seat. One or two people are lucky. The rest are standing and it's been like this since the last increase in 2010.
Nothing's changed but at least the Kitchener/Guelph corridor is running smoothly ... oh, wait ...

They should NEVER have extended the line to kitchener. Especially if they expect the rest of us to subsidize it. Had they increased the trains on all the other lines so that people can get a seat (I purposely never take the 7:01 from Ajax because of the seat issue), I might condone the increase.

The company goes on and on about improved communication and promises but can't even make a webcast accessible.

ReplyDelete@Squiggles: The prvince pays, not the muncipalities. On that basis, GO shoudl serve the entire province.
ReplyDeleteComing this year should be more Lakeshore trains, plus an extra Milton-line train (unless CP object, in which case there will be an extra Stouffville-line train). So, there will be more service.

ReplyDeleteI would hope the whole system benefits, not just a few corridors. There are people who pay a lot of money to stand all the way to Union.
For the record, I'm not against paying more. Just tell me what exactly I'm paying more for rather than just proposing changes, how about giving definitive answers and timelines?

ReplyDeleteI pay both through the provincial portion of my income taxes and through the purchase of my monthly pass. I am therefore subsidizing my own ride as well as those in Kitchener. Until they can prove that those people pay can sustain the line, I will not condone the added increase.
