Last night, while taking off my coat, I had the unfortunate experience of dropping my Presto card and my BlackBerry on the floor of the bus - while it was moving AND turning a sharp corner. You know what that means, right? Everything slides.
It was a total and complete "eff me" moment.
In order to find the card and the phone, I needed light. I headed up to the front to ask the driver to turn on the on-board lights so I could try to find my shit.
Holy Christ, I didn't realize I was on a bus full of fucking vampires. A few ladies were annoyed the lights were on. One guy who was in a coma was angry I woke him up so I could check under his feet.
Here's the thing. I was NOT HAPPY about being one of THOSE PEOPLE.
I must have apologized 100 times. Here I am, crawling around on the floor of a fucking public bus in my dress pants and bare hands trying to find a goddamn phone and card, and listening to people sigh and grumble. This is not my idea of a good time!
Only one person helped - this super nice guy with a small flashlight on his keychain.
I found my card a few rows back and my phone was wedged under a seat against a metal leg bracket, closer to the front of the bus.
I put everything in my bag and sat down. It wasn't my proudest moment.

Ohhhhhh, you poor thing!!! Did those morons think you did it on purpose? Some people!
There was a lot of crawling over people and under people's legs. It was probably the very awkward situation that people had trouble with.
Way too intimate. Trust me.
Well, if you are going to do something, you may as well do it right the first time. AKA: Go Big or Go Home.
So much better than NOT having the driver turn the lights on and you groping all 39 passengers (I am assuming you were #40 in this scenario).
AND!!! you got your stuff back. I think there is some sort of bus-related black hole that attracts all sorts of belongings: scarfs, umberellas, loose change, etc.
Maybe people could not be such a-holes and help you look instead of letting you crawl around on your hands and knees. The lights would have been turned off much quicker....just sayin'.
As if those peeps are so effing perfect all the time. Gads, it's not like you did it on purpose.
And they should have helped you look. Would have made the process so much faster.
Ya' know, it might have been more fun in the dark, get to know your fellow riders a little better!
**keeping my fingers crossed the lights go out on the train when my crush is sitting opposite me**
Wow, that sucks. I mean, it's not your fault that your stuff dropped! (I was once on a city bus and I dropped my ride card in the front of the bus as I was walking to my seat. Luckily, a nice woman told me, but it was quite awkward when I tried to bend over to pick it up and promptly fell on the floor because the bus lurched into motion!) So I know how it is.
But, man, that must suck in front of a full bus. The bus wasn't completely full in my case. :]
It's also not their fault that you dropped your crap and it went flying. Did you expect everyone on the bus would get up and help you? Just as you were not happy about being one of those people, they were not happy you were one either. Glad you found your stuff, but how did you think people were going to react?
Mmm, funny, I don't recall blaming anyone for what happened.
In fact, I think I made it clear that I was fully aware how my comedy of errors was annoying to others.
I didn't say I expected anyone to help me nor did I ask so don't put words where words were not. I simply mentioned only one person helped because he happened to have a flashlight.
I have no idea why you felt compelled to state what I already stated.
It's a little hard to come after me when I already came after myself.
It's looking a little desperate...
I don't know why most of the bus has to be so dark at night. I understand the front few rows to keep the driver's night vision, but the entire thing?
DRT buses have blue lights near the front and regular lights for the rest of the bus which you can comfortably read by. Why can't GO buses be the same?
