ON Liberals NOT moving ahead with charging for parking at GO station lots

Instead, Dalton's gonna make drivers in this province help pay down the debt by charging us more to renew our licences and validate our plates.

Not surprised. It's been 15 years without an increase.

  1. They increased the licence charges less than 10 years ago. It was $50 and then they changed it to $75.

  2. The Star is half-right. sticker renewals haven't increased in 15 years.

  3. Thinking about this further, I think the Star is wrong on all counts. Weren't plate renewals $78 less way less than 5 years ago?

  4. I just came back from renewing my val tag. I'd rather pay a LITTLE more for my for that and my licence than pay for GO parking. I still think the logistics of setting that up and running it would be a nightmare!

  5. Just to add though, just another reason to wonder WHY did people vote this moronic government in again??? They seem to think the taxpayers have an endless supply of cash.

  6. I just did my plate in February. I paid $74, but others are reporting $78, $82? I thought everyone paid the same price (except Toronto-residents, and northern Ontario residents)? Ie: living in Brampton or Bowmanville, you pay the same sticker fee.

  7. @lswgirl13

I bet they could set it up with a presto system somehow so that no parking attendant was needed. But I bet it sure would cause a problem gaining entry to the lots. I watch the Morning Indy take place each day as cars come squealing into the lot 3 minutes before the train arrives. A pay-lot system would really cause those people problems...like I care though. Lol!

  8. I resent the statement that "The vehicle and driving increases are the only fee hikes families will feel in the Ontario budget".

Firstly, what about people without families? Do they not count?

Secondly, what about people without cars?

  9. You have no idea how infuriating it is to always hear about "families". Drove me nuts during the election. I am single with no kids and apparently invisible to politicians. These kind of hikes hit us too. Especially when you consider a lot of "families" have 2 incomes these days.

  10. Squiggles - the Liberal government is sooooo out-of-touch with the realities of the people and this Province.

Matt - I was thinking something along those lines but the line-ups, etc. would be horrendous. It just would never work. And I figure there would have been a revolt if they tried to institute a parking fee with the recent fare increase.

  11. Looks like GO riders who walk, bike or take the bus to the station will be subsidizing car drivers to the stations indefinitely.

  12. Walkers and bikers only, if you take the bus to the GO station your fare is subsidized by GO Transit.

  13. GO needs to start charging for parking because right now, GO cannot build enough parking and lots fill up quickly. It is impossible to build enough parking for everyone who takes the GO train which means that most people will have to take the bus or walk to the station like people currently do on the TTC. Free parking means that you are often forced to wake up before 7am to park at GO lots, and people who need to use the lots who come in late in the morning are out of luck.
