My area made it through the storm unscathed and with power. I did see a neighbour's patio umbrella roll by around 10:30 last night, but other than that, nothing crazy.
I'm sure most of you read about the woman who was killed in Toronto's west end by a sign that tore loose in the wind. I have some questions about the installation of this sign and why it couldn't withstand the wind speed at the time, considering other signs mounted at the plaza at Keele and St. Clair managed to remain intact, but that's up for engineers to determine. I'd like to take a moment to express my condolences to this woman's family.
For many, the storm seemed like a "meh" but for others, especially southeast of us, it was pretty devastating I'm very relieved it didn't pack the punch it had the potential for.
It was also nice to see the pond under the Rouge Valley bridge get some water. Those who ride the LSE will know what I'm talking about. SAVE ALL THE GEESE!

umm, thats not a pond, thats the rouge river.
I couldn't tell at 4:30 in the morning what the outdoors looked like and decided since I had crap sleep, I'd work from home today. I'm missing out on a Halloween party for work tonight and I had a kickass costume too. Oh well. C'est le vie. I'll wear it tomorrow night when I answer the door. *smile*
Wait ... I thought it was a holding pond of some sort. I didn't realize that was the mouth of the river that we see from the train (north side). There are houses around it. That's the river!? Poor river. It really needed water...
I thought it was a pond too! Especially in the last couple of weeks when it really dried out. I don't remember that from the last couple of years.
As for last night: meh. I was all prepared for a power outage and everything. I did sleep quite well. But I enjoy listening to the wind.
I survived the Freshco crowd following the kid with the pallet of bottled water crew who are stocking up for the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse event. Just was a wee bit windy.
I had to take a look on google maps to be sure but yeah, the "pond" is fed from the rouge river. if we are talking about the water north of the tracks that feeds into lake ontario.
