Unfortunately I don't think Orion will have to make this decision anymore... http://www.thestar.com/business/2012/04/25/daimler_shuts_down_mississaugas_orion_bus_plant_after_government_belttightening.html
But I do notice that your original title had Bombardier in i based on the URL.
I did have Bombardier but my hubby pointed out they don't make buses. I had trouble recalling who does until a search on Google turned up Orion. Who else makes buses for public transport companies? I never paid attention. Help!
GO Transit's traditional coaches are from Motor Coach Industries (MCI), and the despised double-decker (DD) buses are from Alexander Dennis Ltd (ADL). The better choice for DD's (if for no other reason than they have a proper cargo bay) are the Van Hool buses deployed by Megabus. Coach Canada operates Prevost buses.
This website is not only read by GO Transit passengers, but also by employees of various transit agencies across Canada and the US, members of the media and enjoys an audience from around the world. Please take that into consideration.

GO orders MCI coach buses. New Flyer, and Novabus are also popular with local companies.

ReplyDeleteOrion and New Flyer make most of the buses that GTA transit agencies use.
ReplyDeleteMotor Coach Industries make the buses that GO transit use.
Bombardier makes the Toronto subway trains and the GO train's coaches.
However those companies have little control over seat design. Mostly all seats are manufactured and therefore designed by American Seating Inc.
New Flyer:

and Nova Bus:

Are North America's Largest Transit bus manufacturers, and both Canadian. Nova is building the new Artics for the TTC.
The GO buses are made by Motor Coach Industries (American).

The larger coach buses are typically the worst offenders when it comes to the "look what I puked up" seat designs.
