GO Transit brings vomit comet service to Toronto's downtown

Like to party past the last GO train out of Union Station but are too broke to cab it back to Whitby, Oakville, Markham, Bradford or (insert name of station here)?

GO Transit has heard your drunken cries and now offers bus service after 2 am from the Union Station Bus Terminal for those who travel the Lakeshore West, Lakeshore East, Richmond Hill, Stouffville, Milton, Georgetown, King City/Toronto and Newmarket/Toronto routes.

Visit gotransit.com/schedules for more information.

I can only imagine the comedy gold I would experience should I ever have to take one of these buses to the Oshawa GO station at three in the morning.

  2. I pity the drivers who have to take these routes.

From the past incidents I've read about from non late night buses, I can't imagine what these will be like.

My prediction will be news reports about assaults against bus drivers by drunks who need to be taught a lesson.

  5. That's a valid concern, George.
I don't have any insight about how drivers are trained by Metrolinx but I am sure many are taught strategies to help diffuse a situation rather than inflame it.

Having said that, drunk people fall into two categories: hilarious or terrifying. It's the terrifying ones that will ruin it for everyone else.

  6. Don't worry George, if the troll bites, I'll share.

  7. CJ no amount of training will help when you're confined to a small space and you can't face your agressor.

I've read about people who have actually tried to grab the steering wheel of the bus because the driver won't get closer to their home. One young lady driver got punched in the head by a drunk exiting the bus. Drunks tend to smash expensive equipment because it seems funny to them.

I hope the drivers get danger pay and self-defense lessons.

  8. I had to take the 1:20 am bus from Union to Oshawa due to working really, really late. There were only 3 passengers - myself (female) and two guys. One guy got off at Ajax, and the other left at Oshawa with me. The driver stayed in the bus loop, watched me until I was in my car and it had started before he left. These late night drivers are some good people.

  9. Glad to see a late night buss from hamilton to Toronto, finally, after YEARS, of extreme crush loads on the 23:30 bus...

The 02:30 to Hamilton, oh man, thats gonna be FUNNY!

(out here in Dartmouth, I would give anything to be back home in Toronto, inter-city buses here are not wheelchair accessible..

Also Local Transit here in Halifax/Dartmouth is 90% dead by 12am.. Weeknights..

  10. My sister and I went to a concert at the Four Seasons Centre a few years ago. The performer (Colm Wilkinson of Les Miserables and Phantom fame)'s a friend of ours and we had to wait quite a while for him to come out afterwards. The late night GO bus ride home to Oshawa was an absolute God-send. I'm glad they're extending this service.
