This may be a stupid question... but how does a service disruption on the Barrie corridor affect Oshawa departure trains?

This email from came in from GO Transit:

Oshawa 08:25 - Union 09:18 train - Cancelled

The Oshawa 08:25 - Union 09:18 train trip is cancelled due to a trespasser fatality on the Barrie Line. Your next scheduled service is the Oshawa 08:38 - Union 09:41 train trip. However, for those of you that need to arrive Union Station a little earlier, the earlier express train departing Oshawa 07:53 - Union 08:43 has been modified to make an additional stop at Rouge Hill at 08:22.

More about the disruption here...

The pedestrian fatality happened, it appears, before 5:30 am just north of the East Gwillimbury GO Station.

My condolences to the family of the victim.

  1. The only thing that comes to mind is that crew for the Oshawa train come down on the Barrie line to Union and then dead-head on the train out to Oshawa.

aka Beats the heck out of me!

  2. Maybe because the 08:25 uses the trainset that does the first run in form the Barrie line?

  3. Um. Saw your Twitter... we're not selfish for being pissed someone can't just hang themselves in a bathroom. Suicide is selfish. Now thousands of peopel are late for school and work because of ONE selfish person but we're selfish for not giving a shit. FUCK U. bicth.

    Ah, makes sense. Thanks!

    @Kim,
You're lucky I let you on my soap box. I rarely allow for this.

I feel sorry for you. It's never fun to be delayed but your strong bitter feelings are a concern.

Life is fragile. It really is. Go home tonight and hug the person you love. You need more hugs. Better yet, find a puppy and hug it. Write me back when you start to feel better.

  5. Ouch, she called you a bicth. I don't know how you can recover from that.
Kim obviously has a very important job she needs to get to. Like filing files in a file room. Or asking if you'd like milk with that.

  6. It's not always suicide...sometimes it's idiots blasting music through headphones, not paying attention to their surroundings and thus becoming part of natural selection.

  7. In a way, I do agree with Kim, however badly she expressed herself.

From my time volunteering at a Distress Centre, I learnt quite a bit about people with suicidal tendencies. People chose to end their lives in such a way because they want the attention. In their mind, they figure that a public suicide is a way to get sympathy for their plight. Of course, in many cases, their minds are the problem. Unfortunately, instead of getting the positive attention that they are seeking, they end up with the negative attention hence the animosity created by those inconvenience by their deaths.

As for the notice itself, I couldn't figure it out. The LSE trains do not share tracks with Barrie line passengers. But I will say a couple of weeks ago, my morning LSE train was one of the ones used on the Barrie line. I know this because of the Barrie Silent Zone stickers plastered all over the top car. The cancelled train could have been one of those trains.

  8. That's true, Squiggles.

My ex-boyfriend killed himself on Christmas Eve Day 2007. He just did it. No warning. No note. There's so much backstory that I'm not prepared to share but I was left with no closure. He didn't jump in front of a train. He was diabetic and decided to stop taking his insulin. He left behind so many people who cared about him and who loved him. He also left behind a lot of questions.

  9. Hi Cj
Did you ever wonder if it was the fact he had a lifelong disease? My uncle was insulin-dependent. He also committed suicide the same way when he was 50. His eyesight was failing and he fell into a depression over it as he could no longer do his job as as illustrator. If you want, I can email you. Maybe I can give you some answers?

  10. Kim is likely a part of the "Me Me Me" generation (if you read Time magazine).

    But I could be wrong.

  11. By the way, I don't really understand the reasoning behind calling someone selfish who is so far in pain or despair as to take his or her own life.

I wonder whether it's really the labeler, who gets angry and who expects that individual should have slogged on in that state just so that the labeler is not incommoded, who is being selfish.

  12. I agree Kim is part of Generation Me Me Me! People born 1995-2008ish. They think the world revolves around them, and fuck anyone else. I am a Gen X and pity the generation after me.

  13. Yes that is correct. Train 800 comes down to Union from Allandale Waterfront station, then drops off the passengers. Following that, the train rides equipment to Oshawa... Where it makes all stops to rouge hill then express to Union.

  14. Barrie line feeds into lakeshore after union.
I feel bad for the person. Clearly they weren't in a good place and saw no better solution. If you don't feel bad for them feel bad for the crew and the family who have to deal with the aftermath. Imagine dealing with that then having people like Kim bitching about how they were inconvenienced.

  15. The first train from Barrie is the same crew that makes that trip to Oshawa. That is why a fatality affecting them disrupts the Oshawa trip
