Ripped from my Facebook status. In brief...
Mother with (autistic?) son (6 or 7 years old) with severe developmental and mental delayment was on the train this morning. The child was wearing a baseball style helmet and acting out. Non-verbal but kicking, punching and screaming. At Union, she carried him off the train and down the stairs when he bucked and she nearly went flying. I raced down and got in front of them and received a kick in the boob, but we got him down safely. The mother was a wreck. Some guy comes down and breezes past and says the kid deserves a good beating. So I caught up with him and gave him an earful that would make an angel blush. SOME PEOPLE!!! So ignorant. Just don't say that kind of stuff. Makes me so angry.

Had the child not been autistic and just a brat, I would have applauded the man's comment.
And with that in mind, he may not have known the child's limitations. He just reacted to the situation.
And with the Blue Jays doing something at the Dome for kids yesterday (saw a TON of kids with bats, helmets and jerseys/tshirts) the helmet may not have been a give-away that there was something wrong.
I guess you had to have been there.
Unless he lives under a rock, it was very apparent the child had issues.
Then again, due to my own family experiences, I'm more sensitive to these situations than others. I knew the helmet for what it was. He obviously bangs his head against things on purpose. I really found the man's comment out of line.
His comments were out of line. Mumbling about a child needing a beating as you strut by is passive aggressive and rude.
Didn't his momma ever teach him that if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. If he had nothing positive to say, or assistance to offer, he should have kept his pie hole shut.
