Umm... they aren't pointing the bottom of their foot at the sky, so why would see the skate?? We're seeing the top of their foot - the skate is behind.
Actually Tom has a point, it depends on how you consider the perspective of the foot. As an illustrator/designer myself, if you have to explain your design, it's a shitty design. Go ahead, take off the gloves!!!
If you like GO on Facebook, they've been posting for other sports too. Hockey (one bladed skater there too) and another one which eludes me at this very moment but it looked odd.

Well someone's always trying to take a sport to the next level. I don't think it will go very far though.
The perspective of the foot up in the air is the same perspective at the foot on the "ice". It still needs a blade.

The leg in the air is also too long. Even if you consider the supporting leg is bent.

The icon is shaped identically as the official icon used by the Sochi organizers, which has the same blade-pointed-away thing.
