Oakville graffiti spree ends with arrests
Two 16-year-old Oakville youths are facing charges following a graffiti spree in Oakville, which spanned eight months.Police said during that time there were more than 90 incidents where unique graffiti tags were scrawled on property belonging to the Town of Oakville, GO Transit, Bell Canada, Canada Post and private property
In one incident every seat within a GO Train car was tagged, which resulted in the train being taken out of service. More of the story here...
------------------------------------
Taking one train out of service on the LSW means less seats, more overcrowding, while the train is cleaned and repaired.
Hope he has fun in court.
UPDATE
Here's some more of these two donkeys' "artwork" which they were stupid to document so publicly online. I just love the exchange of comments in the second shot - stick it to the man, right? Because destruction of public property is so cool.
And they'll get a tap on the knuckles and no real consequences.
ReplyDeleteThey should serve time and their parents forced to pay for the damages.
Gads, crap like this drives me crazy.
Your nothing but a narrow minded in considerate fuck... ive been to jail for graffiti at the age of 18 it does nothing but make you hate this white washed world even more. They should make them responsible, make them pay for damages, and make them scrub the shit out of every wall, mailbox, etc they tagged. You people are so close minded. How do you make some on into a part of society by isolating them from it? As for me it did make me realize there is legal/ commissioned jobs you can easily get with skills of a street artist. Im not a shit head, Im not a drop out. I just think this world has bigger issuses at stake oppose to graffiti
DeleteThese companies can file civil suits for damages and poof! There goes mom and dad's house. Insurance companies also have legal recourse.
ReplyDeleteGood. Once again, maybe if there were financial consequences, the parents would step up and deal with their spawn.
ReplyDeleteI'll give credit to the HRPS for the arrest.
ReplyDeleteAs for the young boys, I hope Darwin's natural selection would deal with them
I love when stupid people post stupid things, it makes it much easier to catch them. I hope they get the book thrown at them.
ReplyDeleteWhy the heck would you post that kinda stuff on the internet??? What an idiot. I saw this on instagram around NYE and waited until this little a-hole got a taste of what this kid deserves. This is why we can't have nice things... people always messing it up.
ReplyDeleteGO oughta invest in some security cameras
ReplyDeleteAw, kids will be kids. We were all young and stupid once. Yeah it was stupid to do it but it doesn't make them criminals.
ReplyDelete^ Justin Bieber's father.
ReplyDeletere: Security cameras
ReplyDeleteBig Brother isn't the answer. Parents stepping up and paying closer attention to their kids and monitoring their online activity more diligently, or at the very least, being more socially aware is the better investment. Also what about the public? These kids were tagging while passengers were on the trains, yet, no one called Transit security. No one alerted the CSA. What? Did everyone just smile and shake their heads and mutter that kids will be kids rhetoric?
I was 16 once. But I wasn't out riding the rails painting my badass tags on trains and signs. I was wild but I wasn't destructive, plus, I was scared shitless of my dad which helped me make some wise decisions such as, do I really want to sneak into this movie without paying? Nope.
I don't know what Justin Bieber has to do with this but I said what I said because it's true. You said you were wild once so how about you tell us what you did that was illegal? Be the first to cast a stone without fault!!! I was 16 too and we did things like shoplifting and stuff but it was the thrill of it and to prove something and we were not thinking of how this would hurt someone. That's my points. Teenagers don't think like we do as adults so we have to cut them some slack. These kids should be made to clean up the mess they made. That would be a tough lesson. But suggesting that their parents lose their home over it is a bit of a stretch. If you were these boys' parents would you feel that you deserved to be homeless because your kid was rebeling? How about looking at why your kid would do this and getting help but losing a house or being sued isn't the answer.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, I don't have a crystal ball so I don't know how a judge would interpret this crime and that's what it really comes down to. My opinion and your opinion hold no real weight now that this is before the courts and in fact, we don't influence cases, suits or a judge's decision. If Metrolinx wants to persue the families for damages, feel free to write the CEO a letter pleading your case that they don't.
ReplyDeleteI have no control over the outcome. Neither do you.
Very smooth, C.J. Very smooth... I was all ready to fight you but you're right. We have no control over the outcome. I think the police were still wrong to lay charges because there has to be severe underlying issues for why these kids did what they did but maybe getting caught was the best thing for them because it means this can get addressed and they can get help.
ReplyDeleteIt's not about being right. And oh yes, I'm smooth all right. Baby butts got nothing on me.
ReplyDeleteunfortunately the parents are probably idiots too.
ReplyDeleteGood kids don't destroy property. I had my share of really stupid moments as a kid, but never destroyed property. My parents taught me that much.
I think that the parents should pay for their kids damage. If no one is held responsible there is no learning from this. Most of my lessons in life were learned through paying for my mistakes.
What??? Underlying issues prevents them from understanding that they're being destructive criminals? Typical lib-left hogwash. I was 16 too but I understood the consequences of my actions. I was scared of my mother finding out more than any legal types....
ReplyDeleteGO WILL pursue them for damages, no doubt about it. They won't make them lose their homes or jobs or anything, but you can be sure a lien or at the very least a promissory note will be in place on anything they own until it's paid off.
Let's hope the court doesn't treat them as misunderstood adolescents but rather the criminals they are. Maybe, just maybe their lesson will be learned and their IQ will go up, but I doubt it.
I'll be damned if my tax money is wasted cleaning up after these two idiots mess up our nice things.
Do the crime, serve the time as my dad always told us (and we never did anything to go to jail for).
I bet they are in private school. Just a hunch.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous said... "Yeah it was stupid to do it but it doesn't make them criminals"
ReplyDeleteYes it does. See section 430 of the Criminal Code of Canada. Tagging like this damages property, and is coverd by section 430(1)a. The age for crminal responsibility in Canada is 12.
This whole "I did illegal stuff at that age so it's OK youths do it now" thing is total bollocks. I got through my teenage years (and those since) without committing criminal offenses, and most people I know are the same.
It's not 2 years - it's ten years, because the value of the property here exceeds $5,000. (and you can sure GO will find it costs that much to replace 16 seats...)
ReplyDeleteThe cost of the seats, the cost of labour to replace or clean them and the downtime will easily add up way past 5k.
ReplyDeleteSucks to be their parents.
Oh but they are poor misunderstood issue-laden good boys who had a moment iof madness...yeah right.
Gee... how could these young miscreants cause SO MUCH DAMAGE (a whole friggin car???) when y'know that our ever vigilant GO Copz are ever on the case?
ReplyDeleteWait - this musta happened at Oakville Go, where it seems the cops have some strange ongoing difficulty spotting bylaw infractions (must be all the gleam off the well polished senses of entitlement in O-town).
Some helpful hints boys: You can spot the smokers under the no smoking signs (their club hangouts), you can generally catch the parking donkeys cuz they drive German imports, and the taggers are the young guys walking around with ink pens and spray cans openly in their hands...
Hope that helps...
Danny
ReplyDeleteI love commissioned graffiti. I'm an artist myself. What I don't like is graffiti that destroys anything paid for out of my pocket either through fare or taxes. It's not cool. The repercussions are increased insurance premiums which means increased personal tax, sales tax and property tax.
If you own a home or if you buy anything, including spraypaint, do you enjoy paying 15% on that purchase? How do you think taxes came to be? Illegal graffiti hurts everyone. Why should I as a taxpayer have to pay to clean up someone else's stupidity? The parents should pay or the person pays - full stop.
My wife and I ride the GO Train twice a month for shopping trips to Toronto. I have never thought of defacing public property. Taking the GO Train is a privilege, not a right. A lot of these dick cheeses who damage the GO Train cars, either with graffiti or putting their dirty shoes on the seats don't give a shit. I personally think that if the owners of GO Transit took these people to court to recover the costs of repairs, these people would think twice before damaging public property.
