Shouldn't these Girl Guides be in school? Or am I just a fuddy duddy?

If they are in highschool there is a PA day today, my daughter doesn't have classes
ReplyDeleteI had the same thought. And for $5, the cookies don't taste that good. They haven't been the same since Dare took over the making of them.

Bicky, do you remember when it was $2 a box?! Ahhh, the good ol' days.
CJ, I remember when they were $1.50 a box! And we went door to door at 9am on a Saturday morning. Yes! I am THAT old! :)

ReplyDelete$5 is too much considering the crap in them. I'm all for supporting them and if I see them I still buy a box but c'mon. They used to be so good I knew people who would buy a case and freeze them!

ReplyDeleteBack in my day, we used to sell there was a selection. You could buy peanut butter ones, or the standard vanilla or chocolate. I miss those days and for the life of me I cannot find a duplicate of the vanilla ones (the golden oreos are a poor substitute).
ReplyDeleteOn to the age: I was 10 when I was a guide. Many were on to the next step of the rung at 12/13 years old. Unless I am really off, that is too young for High School n'est pas?
actually I must have been half asleep this morning, in my daughters school they are off for literacy testing grade 10's not PA day, but I believe Girl Guides only goes to the age of 11 so there must be a PA day somewhere otherwise they are cutting school! lol. Seriously, they need to make better cookies though, $5 even for a good cause makes me hesitate.

ReplyDeleteI didn't know the ages, because A) I was young for my grade and B) high schools start at different grades in different provinces and countries, so I was all over the map when I hit those levels.
That said: these girls should have been in school or maybe they hit up Union and then went to school?
I'll have to casually ask next time I see them at Union Station Squiggles, I can't see the Girl Guides encouraging kids to cut school for money lol, but times are tough!
ReplyDeleteI was in girl guides in grade 5 and quit after grade 6 because I didn't want to move up to pathfinders. Unless they changed it girl guides is for public school.
ReplyDeleteAs a general rule I hate when people sell stuff at union first thing in the morning. I just want to get my coffee and go to work. I, like most commuters are not fully awake by the time I get to union. Plus the fact that with all the construction its a pain in the ass to get through, the last thing we need is people selling stuff and blocking the already blocked station. It could be just me though...
I saw a homeless guy buy a box in Union Station today so I know they must put something addictive in them.

Those cookies were selling like gangbusters today.
I was impressed with those guides and their energy in making the sales.
I've seen the Boy Scouts selling their apples in the past and they just stand there like they are waiting for someone to shoot an arrow into them and claim them.

If they are indeed in High School, they are probably Pathfinders - the next older group in the Guiding world (12-14 yrs). No matter how old you get you never avoid selling those cookies!

ReplyDeleteI already got soaked for an entire box my niece was selling. She just stacks them in the garage and waits for the next family member to visit.
They'd be better off selling them outside of The Friendly Stranger.
It's one morning of school, it's not going to have any affect on their grades.
ReplyDeleteKids in competitive sports miss an average 3-4 Fridays per year for tournaments.
Some families pull their kids out for an entire week's vacation to avoid March Break.
Also, maybe these particular girls are homeschooled.
Relax people.
