I only remember because it was a Saturday and my daughter's 6th birthday. My husband and I made the mistake of inviting all of her class (23 kids) to a bowling party at Liberty Bowl in Bowmanville (RIP by the way - it's been demolished).
What a disaster. One kid broke two fingers and bled all over the alley, the concession stand and the bathroom, and every single parent stuck around hoping we might throw them a slice of pizza. My husband and I vowed - NEVER AGAIN. We don't speak much of that day.
So today's weather is not unusual for April. It's just sucky this year because of the winter that will never end.
And I don't know what I would do without Facebook or Twitter when it comes to weather updates. I'd be a ball of naivety.
This winter is 'so long' because the last winter (2012/2013) didn't start til January and lasted til March 2013.
ReplyDeleteDec. 27/2012 it was 19C at Pearson ... so yeah mother nature is making sure us cold lovers are getting our fair share.
I remember the bowling party well and all the copious amounts of alcohol afterwards. You were very brave. Chad, too.
ReplyDeleteLiberty Bowl is gone?
ReplyDeleteAnother place of fond childhood memories erased. I won several 5 pin YBC tournaments there back in the late 60s and early 70s.
First Oshawa Bowl, Motor City Lanes, The places in Cobourg and Port Hope I can't remember the name of. Those places were Sunday afternoon fun with my parents and brothers as we bowled in league play and tournaments. Darn.
I'm glad I went to 10 pin in my late teens and going weekly ever since to the lanes. :)
Slightly off-topic, but I find it rude when people assume that they will be getting a meal/snack out of something unless the invitation specifies otherwise. If you have a birthday party for kids, I don't think parents should automatically assume they're being fed as well. Just rude.
ReplyDeleteIt is! I don't know why it was torn down!
ReplyDelete@Vanessa It was odd to us that so many parents stayed behind and waited for scraps. We just put it out of mind and just fed the kids.
