I made it to the finish line with a best time of 1hr and 48 minutes. My goal was 1hr and 40 minutes and I know I lost the time due to a bathroom break, and waiting in line to partake in this bathroom break, just before the 5K checkpoint.
In the end, all that mattered to me was that I did it and I was one of 26,000 people who helped raise over $2.2 million.
My husband joined me but quickly ditched me less than 300 metres from the starting line. Jerk.
That's him in his picnic table cloth shorts.
I ralked with my colleague and personal coach, Kolette, who helped me complete the race with a best time for that distance.
I trained six months for this race and walked over 800 kilometres. There was no doubt in my mind I could do it.
I reunited with my husband at the Finish Line. He finished the race, having walked it and never "ralked" it, in 1 hr and 26 minutes - also a personal best for him.
We took a selfie after we got our medals.
I can't wait til next year when I plan to beat my husband's time.
He won't know what hit it him. Or those shorts.

Good on ya, girl!
I should get back into it. I did an 8k a few times with a time of 1hr and 15 mins on average. Didn't sign up for it this year. I need to do some serious training.
Awesome!!! So proud of you!!!
Congratulations, CJ, and Happy Mother's Day. A great effort for a great cause!
Congrats!
Congratulations!! I need to get back into it. Last year I ralked two 5ks (my first (and second) time ever). I did the second one in under 40 minutes and was mighty proud, but right after I took a break - I am still on that break...
AMAZING! Congratulations!
I'm super proud of you! and I'm happy for anyone who can achieve this, I would love to do this next year with my daughter.
Thanks my friends!
If anyone is planning on doing this and you don't normally walk more than 2 km daily non-stop, I strongly encourage you train.
My husband did not train to the extent that I did and although his time was amazing, he is extremely sore today.
If your conceern for your time is greater than your concern for your ego, may I suggest "depends"? it would save you stopping for a bathroom break.
lol
Congratulations all the same.
AL!!!!
She's old not dependant! :-P
I was amazed at all the techniques people employed to avoid bladder issues!
I'm Old. YES. Almost 40. Just bought myself a rocking chair for the front porch.
CJ if you're old, I'm also old ... and that'll suck. :D
Congrats!! I did that event as well, my fiancé and I ran the 10K, my fiancé's first run ever and my second time for this event. We crossed the finish line holding hands (cue vomit from too much gross cuteness) and finished in a time of 1:16:41, besting my last year time of 1:30 and change. My fiancé was great at encouraging me to take fewer walking breaks, and I helped him pace himself and not burn out (he did this while quitting smoking as well, he was not a happy camper). Hope to do it again next year inside of 1 hour. GO CJ GO!!! CONGRATS!! You are amazing, keep it up girl!
Congratulations, that's FANTASTIC :) SO proud of you! :)
