Good morning to the Ontario we already know

While Tim Hudak sits down to review possible career opportunities today, Kathleen Wynne woke up to throw a dart at Andrea Horwath's face in a photo she has hanging on her bathroom door and the Green Party folks rolled over and hit snooze for 10 more minutes.

So basically, nothings changed.

  1. Onatrio got it right!!! What I loved most about this election is that it knocked a few more cons out of the GTA. They only have 4 seats left at QP and the only reason why Elliot held on to Whitby is because voters were voting with their sympathies and not their heads.

  2. I cannot believe that people think that the Liberal party's fiscal track record is ok.

Yes, Hudak wasn't the right choice, but the scandals and the billions in wasted money will haunt Ontario for generations to come.

I have started referring to it as "New Greece" because that is where we are now. Enjoy the higher taxes, the fees, hydro rates.

  3. Wellit looks like the stupidity of voters in Ontario will lead to more wastage, more lying and more scandals while the Libs line the pockets of their friends with our tax money. Gas plants, eHealth, Ornge, need I say more? Billions spent with zero return and Wynne lies about it. Hope you Lib supporters are pround of those moments.

Ontario voters are beyond stupid, so far than plain stupid is on the horizon. Hope everyone enjoys their spinning trip down the toilet.

  4. I'm with Squiggles on this. Hudak, aka "mini Mike" (Harris), was not the correct choice. Perhaps this was a case of the PCs and NDP splitting the vote to allow the Liberals to sneak through. The results are not an endorsement of the Liberals to go forth and spend like drunken sailors.

It's incumbent on us to hold the government in check. The role of the opposition parties in this regard is diminished. Write, call, vent to MPPs (and copy the media). Remember, silence is concurrence.

  5. Anyone who has voted Liberal has made a big mistake.

I would have preferred any party other than the Liberals or PCs

  6. Funny...I agree with all of the above, but if there are so many people desperate for change - ANY change - then how and why are the Liberals now in power with a majority? The math doesn't add up.

  7. Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

  8. @Nora:

I had heard that there were a lot of declined votes this time around. Plus, I know a lot of people were desperate for change, but didn't like any of the leaders so either they declined, spoilt, or just didn't vote. That could be why the numbers are skewed.

It could also be because at the last minute, people went with the Devil They Knew, opposed to dealing with reality. Those that did vote Liberal will be in for some harsh realities when they realise that Wynne does need to slash and burn, just to avoid a downgrade in the provinces credit rating. That is inevitable. I am just curious to see if she has the cajones to do it.

That and the OPP investigation into the legislature is released on Monday.

  9. I think the votes were cast against the PCs and not so much in favour of the Liberals. As someone who would have been impacted by the 100,000 jobs that Hudak vowed to cut this was the rationale behind my Liberal vote.

I've seen this before. Even though over 61% of the popular vote was against the Liberals, they nonetheless won roughly 55% of the seats. This means there were a number of ridings where the race was close between two or three of the candidates, but the Liberal candidate garnered just enough votes to eke out the win.

  11. There has never been a gov't with-out scandal, and there never will be. Mike Harris made the TTC spend 35 million to fill in Eglinton West subway tunnel and lied about the size of the deficit at the end. By a lot.

This is what's wrong with the Electoral system. The popular vote is not adequately represented. In fact, it's so under-represented that the Liberals took a majority government.

I've given up voting forever after this hot, steamy pile of electoral shit. Never in my wildest nightmares did I think that voters in this country and province could TWICE reward lies, mismanagment and scandals with majority governments. First Harper, now Wynne. Clearly, my vote doesn't matter. There are too many fucking morons who march their uneducated fucking asses to the voting booth to render my "vote" irrelevant.

    Good luck, sheep.

I strongly encourage anyone who holds that belief to reconsider. Ontario and Canada need you more than ever. You obviously have the mental faculties to see through the "shit". You have have a tool, the Internet, that gives you direct access to the producers of "shit" and to call them on it.

My father was not so lucky. He regretted not speaking out against the "shit" he saw at the time, and we all paid the price. My father grew up in Germany and witnessed the rise of the Nazis.

Our vote is only one way to voice our opinion. We have other avenues open to us to make our views known. USE THEM!

I've told my children I don't care how they vote, but I expect them to vote. I've told them whether or not the party they voted for comes to power or not, it's up to them to hold the legislative and administrative sides of government accountable - always! Silence is concurrence, and, as history has shown us, the price of silence is too great.

    MATT, please reconsider.

Well, apparently over 50% of Ontario made a big mistake. But it seems they'd rather have the liberal train-wreck at the helm than Hudak's vision of Ontario. And the libs just didn't sneak in with a minority government either, they hit a home-run majority.

I guess the PC were hoping for a Rob Ford Scenario whereby the citizens would be so sick of the previous government they'd vote for them just for change. And the sad part is, they could have at least had a clean-sweep minority government easily had they not played the 100,000 jobs card.

  15. Well said, Warren. We all voted in our house, even though we were unhappy with ALL the candidates. I hope that the newspapers do some good journalistic digging and keep us informed about what the government is really up to. Although well-researched news reporting has gone down the toilet with politics.

You couldn't be more wrong. Only 39% of Ontario voted Liberal. 39%...that is a far cry and a weak whimper from a "home-run majority". Yet because of those 39%, the other 61% of us get to suffer for four years. What a joke.

And to Warren: It's not a question of whether I can see through the shit or not; when enough people can't do the same, or don't care to gather the facts, voting just becomes a waste of time for the rest of us. I've got better things to do with that time then to go and vote when it isn't going to matter.

  17. MATT,
Are you saying one person can't make a difference and influence others? I believe this young lady would beg to differ: http://on.thestar.com/SVz4Sr
