This picture says everything you'd need to know about yesterday's LSE morning delays

  1. Glad I just missed that mess.

Do you think that the construction will ever be done? There has been no signs of life for weeks.

  2. is it usually that busy at ajax at rush-hour???

  3. Nope. I tend to take either the 6:41 or the 7:30 train in the morning. This is about triple the amount of people I have had to wade through to make it to the far end of the platform.

I also think it looks worse, because half the platform is shut down for construction.

  4. Consider themselves lucky, the Kitchener line only has 4 trains, not EVERY HALF HOUR/ALL day service.

  5. Well Anon, if you do not like your situation/ availability of transportation, do something about it.

Move closer to work or get another job. Simple. In fact, if you do move closer to work, as long as it becomes within 40 km, you can get a nice tax credit.

Look for solutions and don't bitch about the situation.

In fact, I am not pleased about paying for GO to run trains out that far as I do not think it is economically feasible. If/when the ridership is there (and it is on the LSE/ LSW lines), that is a different scenario and your gripe has some value.

  6. I'd love to know when the construction at Ajax is finally (if ever) going to be over as well. How many years has it been now? feels like 5. who knows? anyone? Bueller??
as for the whiney west-enders, ya it blows that your line totally sucks, but hey I would think that if the west end had the number of commuters/demand as in the east end, you'd have the frequent service we do too, right?
but then again I could be wrong. Im just happy I got out of Brampton and moved to Ajax (despite the forever ongoing construction at my station).

  7. Ajax construction (on the platforms) will be done by August by my reckoning. It's taken waaaaaaaay too long, for sure.

(Also: the half-hourly of-peak servcie has *nothing* to do with the peak service. If the Kicthener line got half-hourly off-peak service, the peak hour trains would surely be just as crowded...)

  8. @Squiggles
Quite a stupid ass argument really....
Considering the Lakeshore West line offers full service too.
It should be the same service offered on all lines. Not putting excess funds into GO BIKE cops. Especially when you consider the number of commuters from Kitchener, Gerogetown, Brampton and all the stops in between it more than warrants additional service. By all means take some of the trains from the Lakeshore Easr and West lines that run virtually empty every 30 minutes until 1am!
You consider that essential service? I don't.
4 trains during rush hour, no evening or weekend service. Ain't enough. Try it, you'll agree.
P.S. And I don't plan on moving downtown again anytime soon. I've done it. But thanks for caring.

  9. Hi Anon
Here here, I agree with you as a rider on the Georgetown train. Getting shirt changed is nothing new for us.
Let the Squigless and Df-ers whine about their construction, boo hoo. Zero sympathy.

    Full service.

Shouldn't be complaining and some of us can't afford to move.

  10. You all know it was easier for Metrolinx to expand east and west because they own the rail lines. All the other corridors are shared with CN. Scroll down the posts from this week for the Star article for why rail expansion on your corridors sucks.
No, it's not fair but blaming the LSE/LSW folks? We had nothing to do with the choice.
I am grateful for the service but if the purchase of rail lines had been allowed earlier, we all would be happy.

  11. Let's try this:

Kitchener, Georgetown, Brampton, Malton and Etobicoke approximate total population = 1,192,000

Ajax, Oshawa, Whitby, Pickering, Scarborough approximate total population = 1,088,910

I'd say each deserves full service for GO Commuters eh?

    ReplyDelete
  12. It's like you're not even listening.
I told you why. It can't be done. Freight traffic monopolizes those rails and Metrolinx doesn't own the rail lines your trains run on. Until the lines are bought or new lines are installed, it's going to be a long time before all day service. GO wants it but CN is not GO.
It was only two years ago that the purchase was completed on the east and west lines from CN.
See, none of us knew we were riding on leased rails and now you know. GO doesn't own a rail network other than LSE LSW

  13. I agree, if construction is all the Ajax / Whitby commuters have to complain about, they should consider themselves very lucky.........

    ReplyDelete
  14. Nope Anon, it is not. You only think it is because the opinion is contrary to yours and your situation. If you do not like your current lack of all-day GO Transit service, do something about it. Talk with Metrolinx, run for the government, etc. Do not blame others and/or let your apparent jealousies of other's situations get to you.

On a side note: the all-day service is pointless on the Lakeshore lines. And it is something that we (riders and the taxpayers) cannot afford. I have taken it on the weekends and the odd time during the weekday and it is not full. It is something they never should have done, or if they had to do something, then they should have rolled it out slower.

  15. Oh, and Anon at 8.29:

Etobicoke is on the LSW line, so you can minus that population from your totals.

    Still makes no difference.

    ReplyDelete
  16. CJ it's more that just not owubg the rails. All along the non-lakeshore corridors there are chokepoints where there is simply not enough room to add even one GO track.
Imagine the level of complaining if the rpovince suddenly decided to expropriate in order to expand the rail network.
    NIMBYs ASSEMBLE!!!
Until then the other corridors can complain all they want about limited service. Limited space and freight priority. GO comes second so outside of rush hour, any other trains would be at the mercy of the freight schedules. If they change their schedule due to an emergency or something outside of rush hour, too bad for GO.
That being said, that construction is crazy and I'd love to hear of the excuses but as usual, none will be forthcoming.

  17. @ Squiggles 8:16am
Okay, however, Etobicoke North is not on the LSW line. And it didn't include Weston and Bloor either....

  18. Duh Squiggles

If you lived in on the Georgetown line, you'd have the same argument about service. On top of shelter and platform construction.

  19. Yes. I may have the same complaints. But I am doing something about the complaints. I have emailed and called GO about the construction at Ajax (my home station), about issues with trains that never arrive or leave on time, etc.

I also know who my line representative is and voiced my complaints about the above issues, and that person will be raising them in the meeting.

I am doing something about the situation, or as much as I can. That gives me free conscience to bitch about it. You however, do not seem to be doing anything about the situation, except for bitching.

Like I have said before: take some responsibility. There are solutions. Look into them.

  20. Is that right? ....
Do you think that the construction will ever be done? There has been no signs of life for weeks.
    Sure doesn't sound like it.
    Hm, sure sounds like bitching.

Don't presume to think we haven't contacted GO, our local Mayor(s), MP(s) either. This appeared to be a blog for bitching about GO Commuting, judging by the archives.... clearly being mislead.

  21. I never said you couldn't bitch. Please do. But when it becomes a fight between commentators, well, this post is quickly approaching the 25 comment limit so it will be over soon. Maybe even sooner.

  22. Simply pointed out the need for service equality.

    Check & Mate.

  23. Um no. All you did was point out that someone has access to something you do not have. It came across with a petty, Keeping Up with the Jones quality.

Once again, if you do not like your current situation, do something about it.

    Regardless, I am done.

  24. FYI

Sunday July 20 @ 06:30 entire platform is in service.

    There ya GO!

  25. This time the constuction will be in pickering, so does this mean the Ajax door huggers will be gone, I hate the fact i always have to tell some people "excuse me! your blocking the exit"

    ReplyDelete
  26. Sorry to hear about the construction at Ajax, I'm sure Squiggles will find something else to complain about, oh wait she already did. Take you own advice and do something about it if you don't like it. Hypocrite much
