I didn't know I could tap the side of a PRESTO machine

The GO Transit Fall newsletter is out and unlike Spring, the translation service or department employed by Metrolinx (which could be a hamster using Google Translator for all we know) managed to translate Fall correctly -- all five of the GO Transit French-speaking only passengers should raise their Fleur de lis flags and poutine in triumph!

I expressed some criticism on Twitter this morning about some of the content but this photo highlights how Metrolinx's marketing department is lacking an eye for detail.

Come on...

  1. As a native Quebecker, your poutine and flag reference was mildly offensive.

  2. I can't take your comment seriously, Liz but my Acadian dad would find it hysterical.
Move along, this is not the website for you.

  3. Where is the aggressive pushing and cutting in line? Where's the person holding up that line by digging deep into their bag/backpack/purse/tonton to get that card?

    Totally unrealistic!

  4. Or humping the machine with a bag. TAKE YOUR CARD OUT!

  5. It's a reply like that which makes me NOT to want to read your site. Don't worry. I'll be moving along.

  6. ^ And yet, here you are, Liz, 30 minutes later... STILL READING.

  7. Fred I agree, the people that hump the machine with their bags drive me crazy. I see the same people do it everyday.TAKE THE CARD OUT!!!!

  8. I'm from Quebec and I laughed. Calm your tits Liz. Bake some more meat pies.

  9. I'm so totally gonna try this tonight on the way home.... tap the side of the machine, not hump it.

    (In case you needed clarification.)

  10. It's called a satire Liz

  11. Glad to hear others annoyed by the bag humpers. I was beginning to feel that I was the only person on GO Transit who approached the machines with my card out and ready. So sick of being stuck behind the crowd of people who just whack their bag into the machine hoping for the best and then smile sheepishly when it doesn't seem to work. How I miss monthly passes. *sigh*

  12. Well how 'bout that? You CAN tap the side (like in the picture) and it works!

  13. WHAT THE WHAT?!!!

And why don't we know this???

Honestly, you think PRESTO would have had a HUGE marketing campaign about this. WE'VE ALL BEEN TAPPING WRONG!!!!!

    I need a drink.

I'm gonna film this. I need to see it and show it.

  14. I'm from Ottawa (the wrong side of the river by a sneeze, but where many Quebecers get their health care) and found it funny.

I just tried down in the bay east team way on two different PRESTO machines and it did not work.

  16. Rats! I will try to film tomorrow at the machine I used today - near VIA hallway.

  17. I'm not doubting you. Could be design of the machine. Could be my card. Could be anything. It's PRESTO! REMEMBER!

  18. Tried it at the machine in Whitby this morning. No GO. Maybe I lucked out yesterday.

And on a side note, is anyone else experiencing almost daily fare checks? I've had three this week and it's only Wednesday! Had three last week too.

  19. Yup, I've noticed more fare checks in the last couple of weeks, nothing this week though, and I was using a variety of LSW scheduled trains.

I ascribed the activity to back to school training.

  20. I confess that I'm a "bag humper", but my card is only item in a very small front pocket - I know exactly where to tap the bag and never have to tap twice.

  21. they moved the presto machines in the east teamway yesterday. You should have seen all the people stopping inside the doors at the entrance to platform 12/13 then realizing they arebnt there. I luckily saw one on the bay st side of the teamway and tapped.

  22. When did they move them? As of 4:43 pm, they were all in their usual spots. I use the Teamway that is on the same side of Bay Street as the bus terminal.

  23. Yesterday for the 5:10. maybe I dont know what a teamway is, the west side of bay st walking towards the acc. there used to be ones before the doors on the right hand side on plats 10/11 and 11/12, and inside the doors for the stairwells on 12/13.

yesterdays they were all on the left side closest to bay st.

  24. CJ and Al, you're on opposite sides of the street! LOL

It's good that they moved them from inside the doors for 12/13. That used to be a crap show on the best of days.
