Mini school bus trapped in a GO train crossing -- no injuries reported.

According to reports/Twitter:

  • Happened around 8am at the crossing arm near Erindale GO Station
  • 6 passengers on board
  • No damage to bus
  • No injuries
  • Tracks had to be shut down, affecting the Milton line, and inspected

The question remains, "How the hell?"

  1. I think charges should be pending for the driver! Putting people in your care at risk. So as to not wait a few minutes for the GO to pass.

  3. I go into Mississauga in the morning and these mini school busses are a menace. It must take less certification to drive them because the way the drivers go about things is nuts. Cutting off traffic, not signalling, 3 lane cross overs...all with kids on board.

  4. All school buses and regular buses are supposed to stop at all railway crossings.

Not sure if the bus was trying to beat the train, misjudged or whatever

  5. Drivers go through extensive training to get their license, along with first aid training and yearly testing. I'm only guessing this was a case of "poor judgement". I doubt she was running the lights. She did her stop and check before starting to cross the tracks. The stop arm and lights came on after she started moving. Many elements coming together at the same time. Everyone is safe, the MOST important thing.

  6. The rule, that bus drivers have to stop before going over the railway crossing, is extremely dangerous for "fast crossing signals" used in Canada. I have seen many situations around GTA,where leading locomotive was only 300m away and barriers WERE NOT YET fully in horizontal position.
