The Star article mentions most of the added trips over the coming years will (again) be non-rush hour and weekends. Is there a big shortage of non-rush hour trains I'm not aware of?

how about only 120 more trips for Barrie and 10 more a week for Richmond Hill. spread the love...

Anon 1:48, Barrie currently gets zero non-rush hour trains. We get weekends from Victoria day to Labour day, but regular service is only rush-hour towards Union in the morning and towards Allandale in the evening.

I think the idea is that people travel beyond the "rush hours". If they want to combat gridlock, they need to make it attractive to use public transit all the time. You can't do that if there's no service available.

This is a step in the right direction but about 25 years too late to be implementing.

Metrolinx owns the entire right of way to Barrie and is still in negotiations with CP to get trackage rights to Bowmanville. They are only making major expansion on tracks they own. There are three reasons that most of the new service is off peak:

1) It does not require any extra trains.
2) It will not overload the platforms causing people to be pushed off the platform. happened to me once, fortunately nothing coming on the track.
3) Better off peak service will encourage more people to use GO as you can get home at more times.

Sorry CJ but Bowanville, like Canbridge, is on a CP line and we know how easy they are to deal with. Metrolinx should look for a way to extended their own corridor instead of relying on CP.

Kathleen Wynne in Niagara region during last year's election: “What I know is increased GO service in this region is a very, very high priority."

That priority fell off the list as soon as she got on the QEW and headed back to Toronto.
