At this time (9:08 pm), I have no further details and know no more than what the media outlets know (or what you may know) despite contacting every contact I've made in the past five years, and being contacted by everyone who has known me for the past five years. The investigation is ongoing. The only info I got with any details about what triggered the fatality is that the victim was allegedly "clipped" by the Barrie train as noted on Twitter. The man was on Platform 11/12 which services the Barrie corridor and the train was leaving the station. The incident halted all trains after the 5:35 pm train and several other westbound trains. Police won't confirm if the passenger suffered any kind of medical episode before he was struck.
Man just got clipped by train on the platform at Union. Transit officers on scene. EMTs have been called.

My thoughts are with this man's family. This is indeed a terrible tragedy.

I wondered why the 6:45 had a platform change. Figured it was a medical emergency, didn't think it was a fatality.
My condolences go to the family.
My condolences to his family. So very sad.
How terribly sad
was this the same platform that the lady continueously said that someone would get killed on the track ?? the 25 or which ever ?
My condolences to the family.
This happened on 11/12 which is former LSE platform
I feel for his family. It is something that truly was an accident. I do hope he didn't suffer.
The saddest part? Once I realised the poor man died, the first thing that went through my mind is that it will start of the 2 crazy ladies again.
I've read three conflicting reports on this. He had a medical incident and fell toward the train, the platform was crowded, and he was standing in an area of the platform passengers are not supposed to be in.
We need to exercise calm, and await for official updates.
So sad.
We were actually talking about how crowded platform 12/13 were. We left with the 5:30 Richmond Hill train from platform 13. This is a tragedy.
Whilst absolutely tragic, I cannot fathom that this was an unpredictable accident. I take the Milton train, and it has recently moved to platform 4. At the same time there is another train using platform 5 which means the very narrow concrete platform gets crowded - if you enter by either of the Bay Street staircases you have no choice but to walk along the platform to get to where a carriage is / will be (as it stops so far down the platform). If the train is not there yet, there are hundreds of people you have to navigate your way through just to find a safe spot to stand. Standing downstairs in the concourse and waiting for the platform to be announced doesn't work, as a)the train frequently pulls up only moments before departure (I have seen people left on the platform trying to board twice in the last two weeks) and b) they announce the platform before the train has arrived a lot of the time.
But it's not just Union. Watch what happens at Whitby and Ajax when there is a train delay. Thousand of people crowd on those platforms.
So now what?
