I get that, on a nearly-empty midday train, the whole bags (but NOT FEET) on seats things isn't really a big issue (though I admit I can't bring myself to do it even then) but really, there's no time when someone should have to ask me (or someone else) to move a bag so they can park their butt on a seat they paid to have.
As for talking in the Quiet Zone....you're right, CJ - the first Anonymous needs to spend several hours reading this blog's archive - sigh.
Depends where your bag has been. Because I keep mine always on the floor, I won't put it on a seat, even on a dead, empty train, because it's been on the floor. Bathroom floor. Bus floor. Restaurant floor. It's probably worse than shoes on the seat. So if your bag is super pristine, by all means, but I won't do it with mine and I cringe when I see people pull their crap off the floor once a quad is empty and put everything on the seat. Ew.

There's lots of things that editors don't notice at final production run. Doesn't mean it makes it status quo.
But the next time you get a bus and every aisle seat has a backpack on it and you're forced to the back to stand, just remember your own advice.
Why should I, as a paying customer, have to ask another paying customer to remove their belongings so I can sit.

I think it's pretty much common knowledge that if the train or bus isn't even half full, it's okay to put your bag on the seat beside you.
ReplyDeleteIf it gets to the point where you see it filling up and see the possibility someone will need the seat then you put it away or on your lap.
However, they probably should not have had it there in the picture.
