Confrontation, it's not for everybody

The video above shows a fight between a cyclist and a pedestrian over a red light incident on Queens Quay.

I get a lot of pictures from GO Transit passengers of foot riders on the train and people talking in Quiet Zones. When I ask if the photographer asked their subjects to refrain from the bad or discourteous behavior, 99% admit they were afraid to speak up.

I don't blame you and I certainly don't judge you. You don't know how the other person is going to react and often, the outcome, which can turn violent, is not worth it.

However, this pedestrian demonstrates how not to do it. Don't come at someone with all guns blazing ... of course, the other person will be defensive (even if that person, such as this cyclist, was allegedly in the wrong). Then again, I've politely asked people to remove their feet from seats and paid dearly for it with a tirade of verbal abuse.

Sometimes, you can't win.

Don't you just love the world we live in?

Just like a vehicale .. a bicycle can still harm a person, even though the pedestrian should not have become violent (charges of assualt coming his way!) cyclists wanting to share the road with vehicles, well abidding by the same rules should apply, thus stopping at the red light until pedestrians clear.

  2. I got hit by a cyclist. Tore my rotator cuff. But this post wasn't about cyclists vs. Others. It was about confrontation and consequences. Standing up for yourself is hard enough as it is, don't complicate matters by throwing punches.

  4. I hope the cyclist laid assault charges against the pedestrian. I don't condone the cyclist running the red, they need to obey the laws. But punching someone in the face out of anger is not ok.

  5. As usual, when someone tips over the apple cart, the ones who wind up getting in trouble are those who have to clean up the mess and end up getting in everyone's way and blocking traffic in the process.
They never (seem to) go after those who created the problem in the first place---those who tipped over the cart.
