From Transit Toronto - GO TRAINS START ROLLING INTO WEST HARBOUR GO STATION (Hamilton), JULY 9

GO Transit trains operating along the 01 Lakeshore West line start dropping off and picking up passengers in the newest GO Station, West Harbour, starting this Thursday, July 9.

Four trains — two in each direction — Mondays to Fridays will serve the new station, on James Street North, just north of downtown Hamilton. By opening this new station, GO increases to twelve the number of GO trains to and from Hamilton — including trains serving the Hamilton GO Centre — Mondays to Fridays during rush hours. GO will also increase service to and from the station during the Pan Am Games. The station is the temporary transit hub for service to and from the CIBC Pan Am Soccer Stadium in Hamilton.

On opening day, the public can use:
  • the north track;
  • the station building, including washrooms, ticket booth, ticket-vending machines, PRESTO fare-card machines; and
  • part of the public landscaped plaza.
After the Pan Am Games, contractors continue working until 2016 on:
  • the south track;
  • a pedestrian bridge from Bay Street;
  • a parking lot with about 300 spaces;
  • a bus loop;
  • a “kiss ‘n’ ride” — the passenger drop-off and pick-up area; and
  • pedestrian and bicycle pathways.

  1. No parking, two trains a day in each direction and horrible departure times...not sure how many riders will choose this station over the existing station down the road.

  2. The parking lots aren't finished yet. They will be and then the station will be used a lot more.

  5. Tragedy is they sold the stunning historic original station - Liuna - to the mob many years ago. Ah well, at least you can gaze at it from the new station across the road...

  7. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Target completion date 2016? Actual completion date 2019?, 2020?, 2021? (see Burlington GO station)

  8. Sorry, one more link.

    Metrolinx projects a 200-person ridership per day for the West Harbour GO Station, a microscopic figure compared to Burlington and Aldershot GO stations, where the total daily ridership is 6,973 for Burlington and 5,444 for Aldershot, according to Metrolinx.
