Y'all know I was looking forward to this morning's chaos.
Unfortunately, my body had other plans.
I'm home. Sick.
I eagerly await the horror stories!
Did you find York?
Did thousands of people fit down two stairwells?
How bad is your Cinnabon withdrawal?
Did you help anyone?
Is Nana okay?!
It was a colossal disappointment in terms of chaos. There was none. My usual doors were closed and locked.
ReplyDeleteNo drama, no flailing of arms in despair. People just figured out to go to the next available door and proceed down the stairs.
Mind you, I was one of the first ones off the train and there could have been chaos behind me. I did direct one woman to use the VIA concourse. I hope she found her way but she uses that area in the afternoon, so she should be fine.
It did look like some of Bay was still open (near the doors to the TTC area). There were lots of staff giving directions but I cut over to the "moat" before then so didn't get a clear picture of what was happening.
Tomorrow might be a different story when more people are back to work after taking a long weekend.
I made it to the office at the usual time I always do.
Hope you're feeling better soon! I was a chicken and got on the most eastern car out of Oshawa, so consequently "landed" on the east side of Bay. Walked outside, crossed the street and walked into the subway - easy peasy!
ReplyDeletefollowed the sign to York Concourse and tried to find the entrance to TTC with no success. so instead of taking the subway to work I walked.
ReplyDeleteI never even noticed anything. But since I use the York west teamway, nothing has changed.
ReplyDeleteI did however hear people talking about the closure on Front Street and they were not happy. Too bad for them.
I suspect the real congestion won't happen until summer is over and vacations are done.
I came in earlier than usual today (not related to closure!). It was fine - a little busier than usual on the stairwells but certainly not chaos. I took my new route through the VIA concourse, past the piano (!), outside and down to TTC. All was well and quiet BUT I was confused that, as I went through the TTC terminals I could see people were coming out the 'main' doors from the Bay Concourse (the ones directly opposite the TTC barriers, up the stairs). Can anyone confirm? It's not as closed off as I thought (perhaps I misunderstood but I thought those doors, and that access were totally gone?)
ReplyDeleteFeel better,
ReplyDeleteDidn't bother with York
Not thousands but two trains came into the same platform close together... we were second.....
meh, Cinnabon is ok, but I'll miss DQ and Purdy's
No.
Didn't see any Nana's
The only problem was the train moved further west into to union than it used to, so my plan to go to the east most car to exit the station and head down the stairs to bay street was foiled. as long as two trains don't arrive o opposing platforms at the same time again, it will be fine.
Well I made it from the train platform to the Subway station, but I'm not really sure how I did it. So here's hoping I can repeat it tomorrow!
ReplyDelete-Not really anonymous, just hate creating accounts for things
Holy trolling comments...
ReplyDeleteThank god I have you decent folks!
Glad to hear it ain't so bad.

ReplyDeleteThere is an extra set of doors west of where McDonald's was located. It is *technically* in the VIA portion. Those doors remained open and people could go through them and enter the Moat. This has been my way of entering the PATH since those doors opened a couple years ago.
As well, when walking that way this morning, a small portion of the Bay concourse was still open, the portion closest to the Purdy's doors. Everything past that was fenced off and dark. I am wondering if that was done on purpose and to give people a little extra time to figure things out. I fully expect the big metal doors between the West side doors and where McDonalds was to close.
@Al - there's a Purdy's in the TD Centre if you ever get that way. Right in the main hallway where Bowrings used to be.
ReplyDeleteI have to go all the way to Eglinton Station for Cinnabon now :(.
ReplyDeleteNo chaos on my end either. I use the York West Teamway, and while I expected it to be busier, it seemed the same as normal. We did come in on the old 25/26 platform; not sure if that is a permanent change until the concourse reopens.
ReplyDeleteIf someone can guide me on how to get from the platform to the TTC station that would be GREAT! I still haven't managed to figure out that map.
ReplyDeleteFrom the York Concourse? Follow the signs for UP Express. Once in the VIA Great Hall, there are two stairwells that lead down to the TTC, or, walk out to Front, go towards RBC (walk towards Bay, away from the CN Tower) and use the RBC plaza down in the PATH to access the subway.
ReplyDeletePlatforms 4 and 5 became badly overcrowded this morning as the richmond hill and lakeshore east trains arrived and dumped their passengers onto the platforms at the same time. normally it's not too bad since there's twice as many stairwells and the people have usually dispersed by the time either train moves out, but today both trains left while the platforms were still crowded. i pointed out to one of the many transit safety guys there that this could be avoided by just opening the doors of the lakeshore train onto the wider, empty platform 6. he looked like he wasn't interested, but said he'd pass it on...
ReplyDeleteThe chaos happened at rush hour tonight. In all of their forethought and wisdom, GO shuts down a concourse that has at least a dozen PRESTO card machines and doesn't bother to add more outside. Lineups GALORE.
ReplyDeleteI'm considering going early to tap my card, then coming back to the office. I think you get a half-hour after tap, right?
@nahid, havent been to eglinton stn in forever, didn't know they still had cinnabon there (loved that smell in the morning going to school)
