Read about this on the CBC this morning. I would think, with the ridership tanking, they would seriously consider mixing up the pricing.
Though, I will admit, I am hoping it is still around come December. I am seriously considering riding it, only because it makes slightly better sense to leave from work to catch my flight than to leave from my house.
But Cindy! Metrolinx says ridership is up on the UP Express!
If Metrolinx spins...er...says it, it must be true! Right? No?
Well, no, not as transit blogger (and dare I say expert) uncovered, Metrolinx is fudging the truth: http://stevemunro.ca/2015/09/21/evolution-demand-union-pearson-express/
In the Metrolinx report it looks like staff had something approved showing the numbers were on track and everything was good and only needed to input the numbers. Then the numbers were inserted, nobody double checked the gobbledy gook (you know stuff like facts...cause they'll never get in the way!) and put out the fluffy shiny report along with a box of donuts and coffee for the glandhanding and backslapping.
It was only after the muckity mucks like Metrolinx Board Members had left the building did anyone slowly go through the report. By then it was too late.
UP Express was about as good an idea as the 407. Make people pay more than they should and it won't get used. Plain and simple. $25 one way for an adult fare is nuts.
Ridership would increase a little if there were trains that would actually get you to the Airport for your 6.30am departure! Last time i caught a 6.30am flight i had to check-in at 3.30am, latest 5.30 but the train doesn't run before 5am! Planning shambles!

I don't think they'll be shutting it down anytime soon!
I'm shocked that 2,500 people are using it daily.
I'll be trying it out when I travel in November! I will take pics and file a report, if you'd like.
Of course the ridership is down. It opened around the time of the PanAM/ParaPan games.

Actually the 407 was successful from day 1 and traffic increases year after year despite toll increases.
