Ya usually when I'm on transit I just want to get where I'm going with a minimum of hassle, I'm not really looking to chat or make new friends. The only exception is if I'm coming home from the pub on the TTC's blue night bus. People tend to treat that bus as an extension of whateverparty they were at, so are much more inclined to talk to the people around them. Plus everyone has had enough alcohol that it dosn't seem weird :P
I have lots of "Go Train Buddies" who I've befriended just by sitting in the same car constantly. We wave at each other in the morning and sometimes chit-chat at night. I enjoy it. Human connection - good for the soul.
