Metrolinx is not happy with the TTC success rate in regards to its Presto card implementation

  1. It wasn't the TTC that was on Metro Morning, it was a Metrolinx employee.

  2. Yesterday, for the first time since I started using PRESTO on the TTC, the card reader on the bus was not working.

But, the driver noticed me reaching for the machine to tap, smiled and just said "don't worry about it" and waved me onto the bus (despite the TTC announcing that riders will need to carry alternative fare payment methods during the PRESTO rollout). Normally, I carry at least one cash fare on me to be safe. Yesterday, I was so tired and Blue Jays-hungover that I forgot to grab any cash whatsoever. Just my luck that the reader was down; I was fortunate the bus driver didn't make a big deal out of it.

  3. It's wasn't just a "Metrolinx employee". That was Bruce McCuaig, President and CEO of Metrolinx on the radio this morning.

Although the broken readers are bad, I find it even more disconcerting that the Presto website is down for four days for an upgrade. Has anyone ever heard of any website (let alone a critical one like Presto) going down for that length of time for an upgrade? It must seriously be a bunch of amateurs in their IT department.

  4. I fixed the headline. The tweet this was in reference to has been deleted so of course, ALL OF THE CONTEXT IS LOST

  5. That's shockingly bad.

Also: my bank website manages to never go down. Of course, my bank also made about a squillion in profit last year, so they can afford really good website people.

  6. Just returned from Europe, in Munich for the equivalent of 18 bucks you could buy a group pass. No restrictions on # of adults, for 5 individuals. Used buses, sbahn, ubahn and trolley. No transfers required , basically all forms of public transit in the city. All integrated, worked great and reasonable, unlike our abomination. Toronto you suck, you will never be a world class city. Overpriced and substandard service, public transit here is a joke, a very expensive joke , that doesn't deliver.
