Pretty much every GO station these days

  2. GO even covers that platforms that have heaters under them, supposedly to obviate the need for shoveling and salting, with as much salt as they put on the unheated platforms. Union should look like a salt mine.

  3. I agree that the go isn't always the greatest, but complaining about salt? Come on people. We are better than this. Milton go station needs to expand its parking lot urgently, and you are upset over salt... please stop being so angry. Fight a real fight, and I will join you :)

    1. Ain't nobody having a salt fight here. I don't see Marvin having put up a link to a petition.
As for myself, I don't have a policy position on salt.
It you're looking for a fight for Milton issues and need a spokesperson, or help, then you need to communicate these issues directly rather than typing something passive aggressively on a website.

    2. I have communicated the milton issues directly many times :) I'm not sure why you would assume I haven't, and I'm not sure why you are getting so angry as well. Is this site always so hostile?

My apologies if I have offended you in any way. I didn't mean to get you so angry. Please smile and remember to be happy. I am giving you a "virtual hug", and positive vibes :) have a nice day, CJ

  5. Actually, this is worth complaining about 100%. Yes, Milton needs better parking, has for years. But the Salt issue is also serious on two fronts: 1) The amount of money that is literally thrown out the window. There is no need for the platforms to literally be coated in the stuff. The could reduce their annual salt budget by 1/3 easily. And 2) That stuff is horrible on the environment. Where do you think that run-off goes when the salt dissolves? You think it magically disappears? No, it ends up in the groundwater and lakes and rivers. Is it needed? Yes, to a certain extent, and the amount used by Metrolinx is ridiculous to say the least. There have been studies that show rivers and lake are actually becoming salianated because of this. If you want your freshwater to turn into salt water, than please tell Metrolinx to keep it up. Of course, Metrolinx is only part of the problem, Salt is overused by society in general. Well over half the time, sand is a perfectly acceptable alternative.

    1. I agree! With knowledge like this, we can MAKE CANADA GREAT AGAIN!! If people have a different opinion, we can just mansplain until we win. If trump can do it, so can we!

  6. AGREED!
AS a former go employee one only needs to look at the rusted state of the shelters on go platforms to see what salt does to structures. Salt erodes bridges. Salt is the reason why the gardiner expressway fails and why Montreal needs to deal with its crumbling bridges. A better alternative would be sand. But go has always used too much salt because they are worried about liability. But salt is no one's friend and the point of this website has always been to point out and address concerns of passengers which I think a good job actually done here.

    1. You are completely correct. Go is worried about liability. They should use sand %100 and that would solve lots of issues. Save the environment, save money, and save the structures. If they replaced salt with sand, I would be a happy Man.

      Thanks, Lori

  7. I thought the purpose of heated platforms was to reduce the need for salt? Hmm...

Just put the salt on my margarita glass... where it belongs!
