Who care? have you seen the Bramalea Station? Construction has been ongoing for years too. No end date in sight.
Some GO commuters will no longer have to choose between making their train and getting their caffeine fix.
Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca on Thursday announced a partnership between Kilmer Group and Metrolinx that will bring Tim Hortons to four GO Transit stations as part of a pilot project.
“Making it easier to grab a cup of coffee or a snack on the go is part of our plan to transform public transit across the GTHA (Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area),” Del Duca said.
The year-long pilot program is expected to start later this spring at the GO station in Oakville and then expand to Clarkson, Ajax and Oshawa stations.
At the end of the pilot, Metrolinx will decide whether to continue at the four stations and to roll out to other locations.
“Bringing Tim Hortons to Oakville GO Station is good for commuters,” Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn said. “When we make transit easier for people to use — whether by improving stations and service, or by adding services to stations, like coffee to go — we make transit a better, more attractive choice for commuters.”
Several years ago, someone at work said they thought Go Transit was too Oakville-centric. I began to agree with that assessment as time's gone by and the fact that the first Tim Horton's kiosk is slated for Oakville just further proves the point. Meanwhile in Burlington, continental drift moves at a faster pace than the progress on that station to the point the sheet metal they've been dragging their heels on installing on the roof has gone so slowly that (what should be) the underlying plywood is all grey and weathered where the metal cladding hasn't been finished. Unfortunately, I've had to use this incomplete excuse of a station every since they redid the train schedules in Hamilton when West Harbour opened and made using public transportation for my entire commute excruciatingly painful. I'd have to be up at 4:30 to get to work for 7:30, and with a wakeup time like that, I don't need a Tim Horton's kiosk at the damn train station, I'd need one right outside my front door.
If they are going to start selling Tom's at GO stations the GO has to have coffee free zones on the trains, at least for that crap that contains 15 million calories and all sorts of odours.I can't stand the smell of it; pure coffee is o.k.
For Ajax, there is already a small family-run type coffee shop. Timmies will most likely put them out of business. That is what I don't like with the big chains like this. Crappy coffee too.
I have to wonder why they chose Oakville (aside from the numbers that commute from there). There are 4 ways of getting to the platforms 2, 3 and 4 but only one goes through the station. You can get to the platforms without going through the station from the buses too.
I'll never go there because i use the west tunnel all the time without exception as do thousands of others. That will be the day when I park on the west side and walk all the way to the station for a stupid cup of coffee.
Plus just watch all of the Tim's generated garbage blowing around the parking lots and platforms now.
Nothing but PR and a loss of family owned businesses. I hope it fails miserably.
Maybe the folks that build Timmies can finish the Burlington station. They work fast and get things done......
Metrolinx/GO Should post weekly online and at the Burlington station the progress , if any.
Last update on GO's site was weeks/months ago.
Poor optics with GO blaming the winter for the glacial progress over the past few months. When at the condo construction site there cement trucks rolling in and out all day. Workers there early until late in the afternoon. Where as if there is a worker present at Burlington GO it's the talk of the train.
As for the roof, it appears no progress since last fall.
The elevators at the south side station appear finished. Metrolink/GO put those into service ASAP.
All can understand that renovating anything may have surprises. But as we close in on the 4 1/2 year anniversary of construction Metrolink/GO Need to do a better job of explaining the many delays and hire the firm that is building the condo beside the station to take 2 or 3 weeks to finish the Burlington GO Station.

"This partnership is helping us do just that by giving our customers the services they want and need in their everyday lives."
Hey - how about starting with the basics - breathable reek free air by the entrances?
Y'know - enforce the no smoking rules?
The "red herring" psycho-pacifiers will have to do for now, I guess.
The roll-up the rim will get you a free train ride?
Some of these partnerships help bring in non-fare revenue to the system. I see that as a good thing.
On the flip side, there is no excuse for the delay in finishing Burlington Station.

I agree Squiggles. There is a coffee kiosk now at Oshawa, what will happen to this business.
