I'm being quite serious... TONIGHT IN COURTICE, HAVE YOUR SAY - Holy Trinity High School: 6:30-8:30 pm

To whom it may concern,

As an active role you play in the Clarington community or in transportation, I am inviting you to participate in the upcoming workshops on the development of Clarington’s Transportation Hubs. Please also feel free to forward this notice to other members in your social circles that may be interested in attending. We would like to spread the word about the upcoming community visioning workshops.

This is a special project to develop a high level vision for the two transportation hubs around the future Courtice and Bowmanville GO stations. The intent is to ensure that the development around the stations are appropriately planned. The final vision and concept plan developed through this project will be used to inform a number of Metrolinx studies, as well as the Secondary Plans for each respective area.

Any assistance in getting the word out to as many people as possible would be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

I was there. And believe it or not, it managed to simultaneously be extremely interesting and useful, and a complete shit show. The latter was the result of a few residents who brought legitimate concerns regarding the possibility of local roadways being built through or very close to their existing properties, but who insisted on holding the agenda - and everyone else - hostage while they demanded to get answers about their particular area of concern.

Unfortunately those answers were not and could not have been forthcoming, since the folks running this particular meeting were not the decision makers for that issue. The point of the workshop was to solicit feedback on other considerations: should we have dedicated bike lanes? (Yes) What amenities would you like to see in and around the station (grocery store, dry cleaner, coffee shop, local pub/resstaurant, etc.). What type and height of building would you be comfortable with in terms of development in this area? (most said nothing too high or too high-density).

With that said, the group facilitating the discussion were friendly, collaborative and genuinely interested in our feedback and - outside of some one-off dramatic moments that were engineered by the same people who held up the meeting at the beginning, I think we all left feeling positive about the experience.

Out with Chad for birthday celebrations, so I missed it but I have been RSVP'd as a VIP guest for the one in Bowmanville.
Growth is never easy. Those folks should have showed up the Metrolinx open houses. Do people not read? Do they also not know that they have MPPs they are free to go shout at.
That is horrible to hear that the people looking to gather ideas to bring forward to the SAME people I just said these hooligans should be speaking to were subjected to such abhorrent behaviour.
