It's not that there isn't anything to report (other than a HUGE Presto card mess last night that made for an annoying commute this morning for those of us who could not tap last night and then had to line up at stations to have our cards reset this morning) because there is, I've just been a lazy blogger. As I've mentioned before, Twitter now trumps the website and I forget to blog.
But hey, wanna know what I've learned recently? That six years later, now that I'm driving again, people still have no idea how to park properly. I call every parking donkey out for his or her shit if I happen to encounter one. How hard is it to park straight between two lines? In fact, if you were truly skilled, you wouldn't need lines to be able to accurately measure a polite and courteous distance between your car and one next to you. There is so much dumb at the Oshawa GO station lot, I don't know where to start.
So ya, hi, how are ya? Hope you're well. And I miss you, too.
Don't get me started on the Oshawa parking lot! Every other person thinks they need to commute in an F150 that just barely fits within the narrow GO Station lines leaving very little room for anyone else to park and squeeze out their door. Then you've got those people that insist on backing into their parking spot but lack the skills to do so without going in and out about a dozen times and blocking up all the other cars trying to park. Then you've got the people parking illegally all over the lot, although it's hard to blame them since there are no spots available past 7am. Then there are all the poeple that use the precious space in the parking lot as a Kiss-and-Ride. Finally you've got the traffic jam to get out of the lot in the evening. It takes as long to get from the parking lot onto Bloor St. as it does for me to get from Bloor all the way home. And naturally whenever there's any sort of queue you've got people who are more important than the rest of us and think they deserve to jump the queue by driving down the left-turning lane only to cut into the right-turning lane at the last minute, cutting someone off and holding up traffic for everyone behind them. At least GO added a second right-turn lane very recently, which seems to be helping. Glad my $20/day is going towards some minor improvements.
ReplyDeleteNow that construction on Bloor around the station is finished, I am out of the lot is less than 5 minutes. Average was about 12. The two lane turn on Thorton makes a huge difference. I turn left and head towards Thickson to 401 so it's been less congested.
ReplyDeleteI'd started taking the non-express trains in the evening a while back. While the train trip itself is longer, there are way less people in the lot competing to get out so I found my overall trip time was better. With the new lane maybe I'll have to try taking an express train again to see how much things have improved.
ReplyDeleteI've been on vacation for the last two weeks and missed all the stuff happening. Wish I was still there -- warmer, friendlier, and stress-free.
ReplyDeleteBut alas, I need to go back to work to pay for it all. Ha ha ha.
I've missed you CJ - I'm not on twitter and not too keen to get on there. The hubby has an account - maybe I'll sign him up to follow you.
ReplyDeleteShucks, thanks. Sure, get hubby to follow me. It's fun!
