I can't confirm or deny if we'll see this rolled out this year but Metrolinx appears to be getting serious about moving commuters faster in and out of the core at rush hour. Here's more info. But, let's not pull out the Consumers Catalog just yet - we don't know what Dougie and his merry band of policy pirates have planned.
Metrolinx's goal is 15-minute service on all its lines by 2025 (peak-only on Milton and Richmond Hill lines; all-day on the others).
I checked Google Maps to see if the Lakeshore West would be getting 15-minute peak service for September as GO's schedules have been uploaded, but it's not showing anything.
Stay tuned!
If I can speak unofficially, I believe Metrolinx was working towards 15 minute service for the September board, however the September schedule changes will only involve bus, no rail changes. There should be at least one more schedule change before the end of the year, where 15 minute service just might happen.
ReplyDeleteIf the change is only during rush hour, then there isn't really a change at all. Between express and all stop trains the departure frequency is between 10 and 20 minutes already. I'm further confused as why would the train terminate at Oakville if express....will the locomotive only pull 2-3 coaches?
ReplyDeleteColour me confused.
What's the point of having service more often when the passenger count isn't taken into account? 500 passengers on one train or 250 on two trains? No economic gain there, only more expense and ultimately more subsidies.
ReplyDeleteHow many more trains and coaches have to be in service and how does that affect the maintenance and restoration schedules? How much more fuel will be used on probably emptier trains? How many more employees will be required?
Way too many questions left unanswered by the gov't and MX. If they are using the "Build it and they will come" routine, get ready for more taxation as the gov't is usually wrong about everything they predict.
Perhaps MetroLinx should spend their time, money and efforts into getting the existing train schedules to operation ON TIME. More service is a great idea as long as things are running on schedule which does seem to be very often lately.
ReplyDeleteOakville already has two buses that leave hourly, but they don't coordinate in a 15 minute fashion. Fixing the bus schedule so that one of those buses leave every half hour is definitely an improvement.
ReplyDeleteBonus 10 points for the Consumers Distributing reference.
