DURHAM REGIONAL POLICE - Police are looking to identify a male who exposed himself to a female commuter on a GO Train in Ajax.
On Thursday, February 5, 2015, at approximately 2:30 p.m., a female boarded a westbound GO Train at the Whitby station. A male who had earlier opened a door for her followed her onto the train and continued to follow her as she headed for a different car. The suspect sat down in the seat directly behind the victim.
As the train arrived at the Ajax station, the male stood up in front of the victim and exposed himself. When the victim yelled, he fled the train.
The suspect is described as male, white, with an olive complexion, possibly of Asian descent, 18 to 22 years old, approximately 56 tall, with short, brown hair and wearing a black or navy jacket and khaki pants.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact D/Cst. Firth of the Major Crime Sexual Assault Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5316.

I am reminded of an Emmy broadcast when someone streaked by David Niven who commented; "Some idiot revealing his short comings."
I really wonder if there has been an instant where some woman who was flashed actually was impressed by the flasher? I doubt it.
Although this incident is not a laughing matter, I'm reminded of the joke where the elderly lady encounters a flasher. She says to him matter-of-factly: "Why thank you, young man. I just remembered I need to buy some baby carrots."
It's a "sex offense" to expose oneself?
Is there, perhaps, some danger of potential telekinetically-induced pregnancy which can result from this?
"Flashers" are a puerile and prurient bunch in my opinion.
But so is a society that feels so inclined to overreact to such baser behaviors of emotionally undeveloped individuals. It's not like most adults don't already know what human body parts look like.
Yes, it is a sex offence to expose oneself. It's never about the person "viewing" that makes the nature of the offence. It's about the sexual nature to the person doing the exposing that makes it a sex offence.
Clearly Tal you have never been the victim of such an offence. I hope you don't have children, especially daughters. Or if you do, ask them how they'd feel. Alone, on a train. They'd have no idea if he planned to run if they screamed. It didn't even happen to me and I still feel a slight start reading this. It could have been so much worse. And there is no rhyme or reason as to why he stopped at just exposing himself, or whether the next time that is where it will stop.
Your comment exposes your biases completely. I hope you're never the victim of an assault that someone else just "rationally" deems to be an "overreaction".

It is a sex offence because the sex organ was exposed.
On a sidenote: I read someplace (ages ago so I cannot quote. Now that I thought some, it could have been in a Paul Britton book) that some people think these are the beginning stages of a more serious issue, such as rape. It is like those boys (more likely than girls) who tortured animals when younger are more likely to hurt/torture/kill when an adult.
